New Agers / New Thought / Cosciousness Movement . . .
It is NOT about religion---NOT about "spiritual but not religious"---NOT about Metaphysics!!!
What it IS about is philosophy---a THOUGHT SYSTEN---A way of looking at life that is pretty-much 180 degrees from the "norm."
It is about being AT CAUSE, and not AT EFFECT in life.
It is about taking responsibility for my feeling as a CHOICE and not blaming them on others or on the events in my life.
It is about recognizing the my perspective---my beliefs about how the world is---is ALSO my choice. If someone see something differently that does not make them wrong. It only means that they made a different choice. The only question for me is "Does my choice really work for me?"
Why do we need this separate group?---Because those who choose to blame and make others "wrong" are in general the "normal" folks. Their relationships end up being nothing more than a struggle to control one another, with a lot of feelings thrown in.
For me that doesn't work.

Yes Charmie, it is.
And too, it is a CHALLENGE!!!
The thought system called "New Age" results in opening your mind and seeking out the truth of life. When you do, then the metaphysics; the "love and light"; the essence of Namaste'; the true "omnipotence" of God; the flow of energy; inner contemplation; even the moose milk, ju-ju beads, magnetic this and thats . . . ALL of it follows.
It follows so much so that many don't seem to realize the New Age / New Thought / Consciousness is really about the thought system---ONE FEW HAVE THE COURAGE TO LIVE.
So instead, most pick one of the previous things mentioned, or something similar, to focus on and then call themselves New Age. It is easy to get lost in the la-te-da of it all: very hard to hold to the responsibility.
So lets just see if folks will take the challenge and get real about the New Age enough to even discuss it here. I've put up posts about two subjects on these forums: this one, and one about "Ridin B*tch"
'S funny how folks would much rather talk about "ridin b*tch" . . . don'tcha think?
Ah well, one of the truths I've learned is that you don't have the right, much less the power, to control another's thinking. I've said my piece and with this post I am letting it go.

Star-excellent post. However, I don't think a new group is needed. New age should fit in this category fine. Nice to see some other people around who consider themselves new age and are trying to live that way. I would love to have people to discuss the struggles of doing it with. Joy

I would definitely enjoy partaking in that philosophy....sometimes I feel like I'm almost all alone when I think that way.

By virtue of your post it is , right?
So , STAR, why leave out metaphysics, isn't it all related? and isn't New Age, really Old Age, reborn?
I see what you describe as simple self-responsibility - a good healthy choice.
All blame is projection. It is a projectile world sometimes...
so backatcha...

I would have to say that I agree with Dancingmoon. It isn't New Age at all. It is certaintly a return to how life was lived long before religion or even written history. For myself I would have to say that I would even hesitate in calling myself 'New Age' as it too is merely a label. The things I feel and live my life by cannot be reduced to one given name... other than life.
I absolutely agree that it is one's own choice what happens to them in life. And that each individual is responsible, not only for their actions, but for the thougths they have as well.
I don't feel that the statement "I think therefore I am" is such a wonderful thing. As a matter of fact I feel this statement has caused the human race a lot of wasted time and energy. I prefer to go with I am conscious, therefore I exist.
I also agree that if someone has a different viewpoint they are not wrong (and neither am I). As one believes, so it is.
I am up for the challenge...
I really liked the comment you made about the only question, Star. "Does it work for me?". great topic!

The more people with this approach to life, the better for us all.
Still learning how the quote thing works.

AKASHAMAN, right on! Agree with what you've "said" and well put, I might add. I particularly like "I am conscious therefore I exist." It would seem that perhaps the rest have moved on, but appreciate the sharing of persepctive. Alignment with consciousness can take so many paths and yet in summary the point to me is that we strive or make the attempt, learn from what does not work and continue. Anytime I condem another I narrow my focus and only bring more of what I don't want. Since the conscious mind can only hold one though at a time, I wish to choose a thought that is life building and sustaining, what about you???

I appreciate the compliment. I lean toward a little bit of a radical approach in terms of consciousness, and how it is best used. I don't think really. As you have stated the conscious mind is only capable of one thought at a time. So wouldn't thought just be a distraction?
I propose this as an alternative: The conscious mind is for the purpose of awareness. The conscious mind is the part of us that is able to make sense of things, read patterns, etc. If one is thinking than they have disabled their own ability to be aware of the present moment, the present situation, with its particular set of circumstances. In this way a lot of people find themselves reacting to situations, as opposed to responding to them.
Awareness on the conscious level allows for input from the whole of our being. Whether defined as the super conscious, conscious, subconscious, and unconscious. Or as the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies.
Just my opinion.

AKASHAMAN..ahhhh grasshopper...I think you are quite a "deep" thinker actually. The conscious mind is perhaps a portal. I believe it allows some structure and there is a place beyond the words, a very expanded place of Being.
and Jo jo the indigneous soul was here first, go back 5,000 years and we were all indigenous to a place..what is your indigenous root????
Peace and Light to you both.
