AHHHH, the shoe is on the other foot.
Oh, woe is me . . . my boss didn't read/follow directions and rules - why didn't he follow directions.
Does this post begin to resonate what you should expect from everybody ?
No of course not, because that other thread didn't hit your wallet.
But, here's the clue . . . it's the same thing !

Yes boss had me running one more machine than possible. Learning how to pace myself and act my age instead of Iq. The bonus helped too.

. . . dude, you're the one that shot your other foot.
Here's a simple 6 grade example for ya: you can't expect others to let something go when you then complain
that it was done to you.

It's the same thing !

Where I work, if one learns a new job in a different department they get more money. I learned a new job in a different department, I didn't get anything. The people that got more money were guys......I'm a female.........Hmmmmmmmmm........What's wrong with this picture?!? So I very politely told them I'm no longer helping with my new talents if I'm not getting paid any more money. (I did throw the discrimination word into that conversation!!)

I have to say my boss is great, the company I work for is not the same. They implemented Lean Manufacturing and ISO standards. We gave a $15 common bearing a $245 expedited joy ride because we had none in stock in our store room. A shaft usually has 2 bearings so we only stock one, down time is now a problem, so the company implemented a Black Belt program to see why. To fix problem B look at problem A but that would be to easy.

I have a question for you max... I'm a truck driver and being in such a capacity I get into alot of different shops and manufacturers. I'm assuming since you mentioned shafts and bearings, that your company provides for the automotive industry. (could be aeronautical or Industrial) well my question is, will being up to par with ISO open up more possibilities for future business with a more diverse customer base? ie.. your CO. could expand into other products that are needed on a global basis which require ISO standards.... perhaps they already do, I only know of the one thing you mentioned.. just wondering if in the long run it will be a benefit to your CO.

ISO is just snake oil, it does not benefit us in any way. We have 4 plants and if you close your eyes the process should be standard in every plant. Never happened. In our daily process they drop to normal operations, production over quality, when ISO audits return for inspection, they scramble to comply. In reality ISO is just a paper shuffle.

thats interesting, I thought ISO was much more rigid than that.

ISO is just a paper shuffle, it looks good. I laugh when drive past a manufacturing plant that has one of those ISO banners hanging off the side. To bring my product up to quality standards, engineering appropriated 50K for a scanner that would track the product, been 4 years now and I have not seen it. But I am ISO certified...

I used to work at a plant that had to get ISO certified. And we were the same Max, everything in tip-top shape when they came to do the insspection but back to "normal" after we got the certification.

Then they are doing it WRONG, as they are also doing it WRONG with lean manufacturing. I have over 10 years experience in both and it does work if applied properly. My experience is that if the upper echilon of a firm doen't buy in, understand, and practice it daily, it will fall apart. eg: You would NEVER have just one part as a replacement, especially if it takes 2, replenishment time should always be incorporated in a kanban system. JMO, sorry to hijack the thread

Someone who understands the system. Like I mentioned, my company has different ideas and stock holder earnings is the priority, not quality. I had to fill out an accident report for a department meeting because I was impacted from all the BS they were shoving down our throats.

Lean is wrong where I work, the equipment we use is specialized, so parts are not "off the shelf" as one would expect. 6 months out if we have to emergency order in a new part. The spare parts we had they threw in a dumpster and hauled off for scrap money. Bean counters make it look good and cover up down time. Last month was exciting though, my equipment went down and put a bind on production through the whole plant, talk about ties and stuffed shirts showing up and asking questions.

The Kanban I use is really good if scheduling inputs the right information. I can see in real time what is going on and what is needed. So I have to give them an A+ for that implementation. I had to beg borrow and steal for permission to use it, they were not ready to put it into action.

I was hired in at 30 hours, promised 40 hours, and ended up with 20 hours and lost my benefits...ONLY after I helped pull their a** out of financial trouble.
