What is your favorite thing about being a single parent?

I am a single sole custody parent....and i love it that i get to make all of the decisions regarding her life, present and future. and she is all mine...never have to share her...so every day is an adventure.

My children are high achievers. Mostly that's due to their own intelligence and God-given skill, and I really can't take much credit.... but as a single parent, I like the fact that I get to take any and all of the credit due to me as their sole parent! I alone am the one helping them with a difficult science experiment, and then watching them win at the fair. I'm the one helping them memorize a poem for a recitation contest, and then sitting in the front row at the competition! And I'm the one making sure they make it to every practice and I'm the one cheering them on during the games! My children are my LIFE!!

Isn't it amazing how many different activities & places we can be as single parents & don't realize exactly how awesome we are until that season of activities is over?
Awesome US!

Maybe this was a dumb idea for a thread....since few responded. But just thought it was a good idea to be positive about us being priviledged enuf to even have our children in our lives, be it on a full or part time basis. So could change it to----When you see your kids what are your favorite moments?????????

This isn't a dumb thread at all. We should be proud to be single parents. We have that privledge to have special wonderful children that belong to us! I thank God every day that I have my daughter, and I wouldn't know what I would do without her.
My favorite moments are the simple ones, spending time with her playing a board game or going to the movies or taking a walk...even drawing a picture.

I agree w/ virgomom... this is not a dumb thread! It's a great thread! As single parents, we tend to focus so much on how hard it is to be a single parent. Yes, it's hard. Heck, it's hard to be a parent in a two parent family! Nothing about being a parent, single or married is easy, but when you're a single parent, EVERYTHING falls on your shoulders... good or bad... it's totally up to you to handle it. And we focus so much on how hard things are that we forget to look at how great things are. This thread made all of us stop and think for a minute about all the great and wonderful aspects of being a single parent! I know that I personally stopped and thought for a few minutes before I posted my comment. And I smiled as I was posting.. because my thoughts were positive and rewarding thoughts that brought a smile to my face! It's a GREAT thread!!

My favorite thing.....I have to agree with many of you. I do have a great feeling of pride and accomplishment knowing that I did it by myself and everything worked out ok. My kids all pooled together and made it possible. My little people all turned out to be awesome big people.

i think the best part about being a sole parent is seeing all the new things my little girl does and knowing that it was me who brought her into the world and showed her nearly everything she knows. it does get hard though.
