Well names & numbers flow like water, and as anyone hear knows I can't spell and part of that is in my memory as sometimes I can and then I cant and vise versa But history sticks very well as does most things.

i don't know how people can remember that far back, don't you think that is really people telling you the stories over and over since you were little more than actually remembering the event itself?

I was amazed a couple of years ago, l couldn't even remember the layout of the houses we lived in, or where my bedroom was. It was all so foggy... I've pieced it together much better, now...

i have lived in this town since i was eighteen. The other day I was on the other side of town. thinking i was taking a short cut home, I ended up going up and down streets like an idiot! I knew it would have been shorter to take the interstate around, but no, what was I thinking?

It depends, really. Art, I've had that sensation, but its been a long time. When I had my stroke, my short-term memory really suffered. Now I put things on sticky notes and don't miss much. That was 14 years ago.

I can't remember names of movies, actors/actresses names, song titles or the artists' names. I know when I start to watch a movie that I've seen it before and what it's all about and I know when I hear a few notes to a song what the tune is and all the words.
And really embarrassing is that I can't remember the names of people I went to school with. I started first grade, attended all 12 years, and graduated in the same small town but when I go back there and run into people in the store who immediately come up to me and call me by name I can't remember theirs.

I am geographically challenged. If you tell me more than two turns when giving me directions I may remember the first one, or is it the second one? I can't remember!
I have GPS, now! It's as screwed up as me, sometimes!
One night I stopped to get a glass of tea and the GPS said, "Make a legal U-turn in the next 58 miles."
I was 48 miles from home!!!

Thats because aging affects the short term memory that is stored in the front part of the brain...(the frontal lobe)...so long term memory is good.

Don't ask me much about what happened today until next week. Then I will remember everything . Odd how that happens.....Now if you are talking about the heart attack and stroke caused by a reaction to the numbing shot the dentist gave me a couple months ago. I can honestly say, I lost complete memory for a day. Then I could repeat verbatum all that had happened....even when I had lost my memory. Now isn't that a strange one?
May I also add, that a wonderful man from DH, Deified_infidel, took it upon himself to come here and help me out. No questions asked....who could ask for a better friend.

I always write notes so I know what I am suppose to get done the following day.
So I leave the house and get to the first place and look for my note.
Well, it's not in my purse, nor on the jeep seat. I have no idea where it is at.
Now do you think that I can remember all that was in that list, hell no. I might remember one or two things but not 7 or 8.
When I get home I find my note either on my computer desk or on the kitchen table.
I can not tell you how many times I have done this.
It's no fun getting older.

You know the hardest thing for me to remember is when I'm with my 3 sons and we start talking about how I got my gray hair (under the blonde you know ) and I get them mixed up as to whom was my biggest problem child...It ends up with me saying 'I know it was one of ya' and it had to come from your Father's side!! I have no idea why they just smile at me saying 'Yea Mom, that's right'...patonizing little chits

lol Had to go back to page one after reading all the post. Forgot who put out the thread.
Thought it was Bear but so many posts by Heather made me think it was her thread for a while.
I forget the things I need at the store. If it is food or supplies to fix something, my mind just goes blank when I leave the house. Now I try to make a list for things.
The list works for me ~~ I get the things I need while I'm out and have started a to do list to get me going when I get lazy.
As for childhood I remember most things back to age three. I have not done it through someone telling me over and over but some of it did come back to me as dreams here and there. When I asked someone in the family if it was for real they said yep it was.
