Several times in the decade or so I've suffered through a breakup shortly after the current girlfriend was introduced to another gal I've dated previously and ended up staying friends with. When I add things up, there are only a couple of women I've dated in the last decade or so that I'm not on pretty good terms with.

Am I just weird?

The last girlfriend, S, was actually an ex-girlfriend I got back together with years later. First time she broke things off after four months when she was introduced to L. Second time she broke things off after two months when she was introduced to M. I never got past dating and into the relationship stage with L or M but I feel like S was intimidated anyway.

Or is she the weird one?

Half of my guy friends are irresponsible delinquents and that never seems to matter.

Do I really deserve being thrown to the curb for staying friends with members of the opposite sex?

I'm not really sure what you're saying or asking here. If you're simply asking if any men stay friends with girl friends after they break up with them my answer is -- I think that's a rarity. I never do. I've talked about staying friends with a girlfriend forever no matter how the relationship turns out -- and we both agree at the time that that will happen but it never does. A clean break is always best. That's an old saying and I happen to agree with it.

I think it depends on the people involved. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule.

If the girl trusts you, it should be fine. Be completely honest with the girl up front. I've stayed friends with a few of my ex's. There are some that you just have to have a clean break with, either because the boundary you have set up with them they feel is "gray" instead of black and white; or you can't be friends, because you end up not being able to stand each other.

Maybe I'm a little confident in my own skin and that's why I'm not threatened by ex-girlfriends. Good luck with all that!

I've never been anything but completely honest with the women I've gone out with. I'm a guy. Dumb as a fence post. Can't keep what lies I've told straight. Therefore, I don't bother to try deceiving them. It never works.

It's just that one must go out with a few before finding one to date. You have to date a few before finding one to settle into a relationship with. This isn't the biggest town in the world so I'm almost certain to run into somebody I've dated at some point. There must be around 50 women around that I've gone out with a few times over the last twenty years and another dozen or so that I've gone so far as dating.

To be honest though, I can understand some of the uneasiness. I'm also a bit nervous meeting the other's ex if it was a serious, long term relationship. I'll freely admit there is one ex-gf in particular that I'm still a tad smitten with, but why must so many women assume that if I'm still on friendly terms with someone then I must still have an interest in them?

The same reason why if your with a girl they can talk about how hot guys are on tv or movies. It's called Lifetime women love that channel they all watch it and every show is about some guy cheating, beating, or killing his wife. its just the way it is.

Hmmmmm, I think there is a difference between a "girl" and a "woman". And sounds like you are talking about girls.
