My favorite part about Paris was the outdoor cafes and the atmosphere. Nothing better than eating French Onion soup while staring up at Eiffel. I'd also hit the Lovre and see the Mona Lisa, take a walk down the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe, and visit Notre Dame. There is a marker outside the church called, Kilometre Zero. Supposedly, if you step on it, you'll return to Paris one day. It's all very touristy and corny but it's cool. I'm jealous. I'd love to go back. Enjoy your trip

A lot of the people will ignore you if you expect them to be able to speak English.

Learn some basic French and make sure you pronounce everything correctly.

Have to visit La Rive Gauche. See where Picasso and Matisse painted. Rent a bike and travel the streets is the best way to see Paris. The museums are a must. The cathedrals must be seen.

Been to paris.

Bad side: It is filthy dirty downtown. People are rude, watch for the pickpockets and gypsies. Merchants will rip you off if you do not talk french. Expenive to say the least. DO NOT throw any thing in the river unless you want to visit a french jail. Skin Heads are about Paris.

Good side: Old world architecture is WONDEFUL. Food is to die for. Take a Sans river tour. Check out the half nude sun bathers along the river walk. Were not in Kansas any more. To me the french wine sucks. Is bubbly. Take a ride on the Autobahn. WOW!!!
Take in the Notre Dame. Oh my goodness. Leave your camera in your pocket. Cannot take pictures inside. Go to the Tower and attempt to climb to the top. Go to the purfume factory downtown. Have to go to the Louve.

The French Federal police wear cool uniforms but carry Uzi machine pistols. They can be seen riding two on a motor bike with the rider looking backwards. These guys/gals are dressed all in black with face covered. The French police also take ZERO shit off of people. Do not attempt to drive in Paris especially around the Arc de Triomphe.

So go and have a great time. Just stick to the main streets unless in numbers. Trust no one. Do not carry a purse and do not dress like an american.

Try to make time and rent a car but dont drive in Paris , drive to the South, the French Riviera, Cannes, Nice or Nize, Monaco, Montecarlo, you will loved, and dont try to communicate in English, they will not answer you, try to learn the basic at least.
Bon Voyage...

Talk to the hotel employees, the locals. They will tell you the best places to eat, not the tourist ones.
If you venture outside of Paris, trains are your best bet. Ride the TGV to Lyon.
Travel light.

Best pieces of advice I got before going: wear black. Paris is a formal city, if you look (or talk) like a tourist, you'll get treated like one. I visited with some Greek friends and we got no grief - you'll do just fine and it's likely that no one will peg you as an "ugly American." Leave sneakers and jeans in the suitcase. Or back at home. Skip the Louvre. Long lines, ancient art. And the Mona Lisa is tiny! See the Orsay instead. Many times. See Versailles. It's an easy train ride, no car needed. Always order le plat du jour. The chefs want to impress you. Find open-air markets in the different arrondissements and soak in the sights, sounds, smells, tastes. But also go to Samarataine, it's an unreal shopping experience. Be warned: you may never want to come back... I'm totally jealous!

Short trips to Fontainebleau or Versailles from Paris are easy and worth a day, I would skip Disney and do these.

If like others have suggested you have time and can rent a car I like the French Alps, Chomanix was my favorite, combine that with a trip to the Riviera.

The chateaux's you can't go wrong visiting. Versailles is indeed a must visit & it will take you most all day to spend there in truth! If you have a weekend free may I suggest a small costal town of Biarritz which also has a very livacious night life as well as many excellent eats as it will be a warm summer to be sure chaxmoniex(sp?). Is an amazing town but I liked it more for wintersports. In Paris there is the arc de triumph with the 1of three tombs of the unknown soldier. Your young so you really must actually climb the steps of the Eiffel tower it really feels like an accomplishment and makes the view that much better . Also find out when the music festival is THAT was an absolute blast but it may be in June but still worth a look into it. Yes the monalisa it tiny yes it is actually way overcrowded to even get to see it but there are so many other works of art there that are absolutely stunning it is worth going to the louvre. When I went I didn't know any French except counting (numbers) and really all they want is to see you submersed in their culture nOt to be another typical American jack@$$. So I'm sure you will have the time of you're life! P.s. when in doubt about something to do ask a local they generally don't steer you into having a bad time (; PPS. Screw eurodisney... They have actual castles and chateauxs there that are far more amazing & worthwhile to see... Also visit any church's you come across they too are architecturally magnificent. Thank you that is all... O the basque country it is the region between France and Spain its a whole other culture there they even have the road signs in their language!.. Ok NOW that is all lol thank you

Bring the film lots and lots of film... When you run out you will be up set! If your bringing digital bring several of those little memory disks the big ones!! Like the 50 mb not the little 5 mb or whatever they have these days... Because if you have to by a disposable camera half the picture will not come out & you will be soooo very upset. I mean I'm a guy & I took ALOT of pictures... & I'm not a picture taking person lol just saying 2x's whatever you were thinking of bringing( I mean u know how much you like to take pictures) because you will take Atleast that many more!
