Well hun you are not to old to learn. If you want to fight that would be a nother story. It will take alot of work for you. Not saying you can't do it. Just you'll have to work your a** off. These girls are though and fast. It takes alot out of you. Go for it as long as your doctor says you can of coarse.

I did for over six years...I would be gone for 2 to 3 months and they would throw me in the ring to help train all the black belt...if I scored on them in the fights, they would have to do push-ups...they hate me!!!...now that I'm 41, I just like to watch...matt

I'll give you lessons at a local firing range, I can get you proficient with a few different firearms, then you choose what you like. With proper firearms training, you'll have a confidence that you'll never get with martial arts. And you'll feel safer going to martial art classes or anywhere after dark, when you get your carry permit. Besides, a woman packing heat is "sexy"!

A woman packing heat may surely be sexy, just as I think a woman playing guitar is, but you are only proficient with a firearm when you have one with you. I'll ALWAYS have my martial arts knowledge and experience with me. What if she were the lady in the shower scene at Bates Motel?? Do you shower with your weapon? I shower with mine.

No offense, just an arguement I feel strongly about.

You are definately NOT to old to begin training in the martial arts. Find a school that focuses on what you want (ie, self defense, full contact sport, point tournaments, traditional, etc) and begin!

Of course there is usually some cross over from one type to another, but if your main goal is self defense, i would suggest an eclectic style such as Krav Maga or a combination such as Muay Thai and BJJ.

If you can get up and move - you can train in martial arts!

GOOD TRAINING!

Ditto last two posts. Good martial arts training trains your body and especially your mind. The first few month may be challenging if you're out of shape but your body will adapt which is the beginning of training your body. You'll also gain problem solving skills like what do do when your first plan didn't work or your gun is out of reach. I believe in being proficient in all weapons--guns, knives, stick, brick, iron skillet, beer mug, ballpoint pen, fingers, hands, feet, or anything and whatever it takes to protect yourself or someone you care about from attack. Our jui-jitzu school teaches you to do with weapons everything you do with empty hands and to do everything lying down that you do on your feet in case you get knocked down. I recommend street jui-jitzu, krav maga, or muay thai if schools are available in your area. These systems are based more on real world self-defense training but there are lots of good systems. Go for it! You'll be glad you did.

Hell, you're only in your thirties!

Thank you to everyone that replied. I was suspended for 2 weeks the same day I started this thread but I read all your replies. Thanks again.

I may need to quit smoking before I try any of this actually.
