It's been 30 years......
by mtrctylady at 11/25/2014 3:26:52 PM

Yesterday would have been my mother's 94th birthday. Usually, whenever her birthday comes, I tip a glass of wine to her and say "love ya Lizzie." (Our joke) But, for some reason it hit me hard yesterday. Even though we didn't get along with each other on a lot of issues, I loved her dearly. Just before she passed, which was quite sudden, we had been talking and laughing a lot. So, my friends, if you could bear with me, I'd like to dedicate this song to my mother, Lizzie. Here's to you old girl! Happy Thanksgiving to all, enjoy your family and friends for tomorrow is never promised.

Thanks for sharing that song and touching tribute to your mom Ramona. We were blessed to have such great bands come out of motown and the motor city. Jackie Wilson was always my favorite - as one of the Pointers sisters said " Jackie was the performers performer" - we got to see it all

Thanks Lexi. I love that moving heart. How you do that? Harry, I don't know why but today I felt like it had to be done. I've never done that before -- paid a tribute to her publicly. Thanks @eyes for your kind words. That's all we can wish for, huh!

Ramona , what a beautiful blog, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family , God Bless you The Spinners - Sadie Lyrics Artist: The Spinners Album: New And Improved Genre: R&B Heyo! SONGLYRICS just got interactive. Highlight. Review: RIFF-it. RIFF-it good. Listen while you read! In a world like today It's a rare occasion to be able To see young mothers like the ones That were around when I grew up But they live on in memory To quite a few of us And this song is dedicated To those who cherish that memory Early one Sunday morning Breakfast was on the table There was no time to eat She said to me, ‽Boy, hurry to Sunday school” Filled with her load of glory We learned the Holy story She'll always have her dreams Despite the things this troubled world can bring Oh, Sadie Don't you know we love you? Sweet Sadie Place no one above you (Sweet Sadie) Well, well, well (Living in the past) Some times it seems so funny (Ooh, ooh, ooh) But no money will turn your life around Sweeter than cotton candy Stronger than Papa's old brandy Always that needed smile Once in awhile, she would break down and cry Sometimes she'd be so happy Just being with us and Daddy Standing the worst of times Breaking the binds with just a simple song (Sadie) Oh, Sadie, baby (Don't you know we love you?) She'll lovin' us all in a special way (Sweet Sadie) Well, well, well (Place no one above you) Sweet Sadie (Sweet Sadie, livin' in the past) Living in the past Oh, she's never sinnin' (Ooh, ooh, ooh) In love, she's always winnin', yeah (Sadie) My, my, my, my, my (Don't you know we love you?) I love you, mama (Sweet Sadie, place no one above you) I just can't forget (Sweet Sadie) How you gave me love, oh, Lord (Living in the past) If there's a heaven up above (Ooh, ooh, ooh) I know she's teaching angels how to love (Sadie) It's a mean world without you (Don't you know we love you? Sweet Sadie) All the love you showed (Place no one above you) Oh, I could never, ever doubt her lovely word (Sweet Sadie, living in the past) Ain't it funny that in the end it's not money (Ooh, ooh, ooh) It's just the love you gave us all (Sadie)

Liz. I had just got through listening to the song, and here comes my friend with the words. I'm truly blessed to have all of you as friends. Donald Trump has nothing on me, I'm richer than him.

My sincere condolences on the loss of your mom too. Unfortunately, most of us have to go through this. I lost my mom 7 years ago.

@Ramona..I so understand how you feel. My mother's and my relationship was similar but I do love her very much and miss her greatly..She was 94 when she passed in 2004. I am so greatful for the things we did share together and I know she is in a happy place. I feel she is looking down on me as your mom is doing the same..

Yes, Happy, they are in a happy place. Maybe our moms are looking down on us together shaking their heads. "tsk, tsk Now why do you suppose they're on DH?" [Sorry, that sense of humor keep kicking in. This is one of the ways I cheer myself up.]

Morles, you have my blessings to dedicate this song to your mom. At our age, I bet we all can think of a mom, grandma, or even an aunt who fits the bill of this song. Please give your mom a kiss on the cheek and tell her it's from your "Yankee" friend.
