Ok I seriously need some help with this one...
When I was a teen, I lived on and off the street, there was a church I stopped to prey at every night asking for saftey ( yes I know my spelling stinks) While I didn't know what it really ment, I felt the strong urge to go in one night when it was open and I asked to be saved and baptized, they did it right there on the spot..
The problem? I really want to go back since, I was reborn so to speak at a different church back in 2004 and know what it means now, I am sort of back slideing but, the church is far and, this one is up the street, it used to be a while church but, now it's all black and I am afriad they would not accept me, anybody out there with some advice, I would welcome it.
My life has been as such, I know that the things I did when I was young should have ended me six feet under and, I have been negative this past year due to never ending health issues.
Please e-mail me if you can help...Thanks

Scooby ... I would not worry about the ethnic background of the church you want to attend . Concentrate on the message you recieve . Stop by the church and talk to the minister / pastor you will know if your are in the right place . Most of all pray to God that he leads you to a place where you can praise him and share and learn the word . My prayers are with you to find a church .May God show you the way.
God Bless You

hi Teberd,
Thank you for the post, right now I have to recover from a major foot operation last month which has confined me to my bed for the most part unless I have my walking boot on and am allowed up for a bit.
One problem I have about any church is I seem to cry every time I go in one, I don't understand why that is and, I am terrified that people will start to wonder why I am such a baby.. Growing up, I was not allowed to cry. I even cry over a simple dinner prayer.. Do I sound weird for that?

Scooby...Hope you have a speedy recovery on the foot. Walking into the right church to me is a very emotional and uplifting and the right church will not be judgemental of you for your tears if anything the community there will be engaging and supportive in order to reach out to you . This also can be the start of some new friendships as well as fellowship.
Good Luck

Teberd,
I guess I also feel bad because I have backslid so much and sometimes feel like God has turned his back on me for being so bad.
Mama says that crying in church is the holy spirit touching my soul...
I remember praying at that church every night, I think it was because it was something to cling onto even if I didn't really beleive. I had a cross as a teen around my neck and I always clutched it when I stopped to prey...
I am surprised I never got caught when I slept under the cement benches lol

Race is not an issue in Christianity. We are all part of the human race.
The only race we should be concerned about is the race that we run in the faith.
However, some churches who segregate themselves based on their skin color are in fact not Christian churches at all, but rather cults i.e. Barach Obama's church is far from being a Christian church.
Just make sure that the church you attend is a healthy, well balanced church that preaches the true Gospel of Christ.

scooby, perhaps you can call the church office an ask if the pastor can come to see you. That way you can ask him questions about the church and then you'll know if it would be right for you and even if it isn't at least you can have the pastor pray for you and perhaps suggest a church that you would be comfortable in. I agree with what your mom said about the Holy Spirit working in your heart that leads to the tears and humbles you. If you tell God about your sins He will not turn away from you, he wants you to be happy but you need to go to Him. Take care and God speed your recovery.

That was a good response from Imagoodone
You can also contact the Christian Research Institute and they most likely can hook you up to a church in your area.

Sister, let me share this tale with you I heard long ago...
This church was one of the 'now' generation churches. Huge crowds every Sunday, huge offerings evident by the building they worshiped in, and yet...
One Sunday morning, the service had started when the doors opened. In walked a young street person, shabby, questionably clean, long greasy hair. This young man was not to be left out. Obviously God had placed it in his heart to attend church. (it had to be a Baptist church..haha, because all the back pews were full.)
He proceeds walking down the isle, looking left and right for a seat. Some scooted over to make it seem like the pew was full. He proceeded down towards the front. As he made his way down towards the front, each pew silenced as he past. When he got to the front, no seats were available, no one would scoot over and let him in. The House of God was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. This young man folded himself and sit on the floor right in the center of the isle.
Most were dumbfounded wondering, I am sure, why doesn't someone escort this fellow out the door.
Then from the back, everyone heard a tap, tap, tap. Up the isle comes one of the oldest members of the church, struggling each and every step, using his walking cane. The tap was coming from contact as he placed the cane down each step forward. As he moved forward, I'm sure many were saying, whew, at least someone was brave enough to ask this street person to leave.
Finally the older man is even with the person sitting on the floor. He reaches his hand down and touches the man sitting, on the shoulder. The audience was really quiet and watching. As the older man leans over towards the younger one sitting on the floor, it became obvious that he was sitting down, using the shoulder for assistance. As he seats himself on the floor, he looks up at the pulpit and says, "you can continue now."
Go to church where you want to. God doesn't see color, age, or sex.
For those of you who think there is no room in church for women, read Judges 4....

God is with you first of all, you can go anywhere in Him and not fear. There will be christians there and they will welcome you when they see Christ in you I was going to go to one in Omaha and this guy I knew got all freaked out and said it was on the bad part of town and all this. If you pray, ask God if this is where He wants you, wait on His answer, Read His Word, you will know! They may need you sis because maybe they would love to have more people of other "color" come there but everyone is afraid?? Go for it and do let us know how it goes. About being found in a ditch or 6 feet under. We take that chance 24/7 in this fallen world.
Love you, ysic, denise

Scooby, if your whiteness makes them not welcome you with open arms, then maybe they need a little more of Jesus in them. Go to a different church until you find one that feels like you have always been there and don't put color on the cover

I don't have much to add scooby, except watch church on TV until that time.
And follow some of the advice given here.
The church I like, comes on TV every Sunday... I have gone there some, but watch him
every Sunday when at home.
This church has about half black people/half white people... The 1st I have seen.
BUT, there is so much love there.. I really enjoy the pastor, who is white, the 3
singers who are black and the congragation who are all colors singing
praises and clapping our hands and lifting our hands and hearts to Jesus....
I, like you, cry every time I go.....I feel God's presence.....How awesome..
That is what I believe is happening to you, sweet lady.......(smile)
And being grateful
and thankful for HIS love causes many tears of love as well.
Go where you find Jesus LOVE........Not religion ..... You will have
peace when you find the one church you feel God.......
God Bless you
You are in my prayers...
God will show you the way.. Hang onto that!!

My favorite church is about 2 hours away. It is about 97% black and I am white.
I would only say one thing... well maybe two
God is no respector of persons and if they don't welcome you with open arms you probably need to find a better church
secondly I think that black churches seem to be more into the praise part of worship and I know that the difference between the local church I go to once in awhile that is white and the black church, I feel the Spirits presence feels stronger when there is better praise and worship. I hope that made sense. I guess I am trying to say the difference between being a hot or cold chuch but not those extremes entirely. Good luck.
God Bless
Dana

Hi, I just want to encourage to you to pray first - ask God - and then go. If you feel lead to go - trust God. He won't lead you astray, and He'll make it very clear if you're not to go. Afterall, He loves you sooo much - and wants you in the body of Christ, growing, loving, being loved. This is the wonderful God we serve.
I went to this huge black church - they advertised a class I wanted to take - I went, loved the class, met some very wonderful bros & sis in Christ! My best friend came from that class - it's been 7+ years; I don't attend that church, but the friendships are still a part of my everyday blessings.
Many blessings to you!
& healing on your foot.

You all have had some great advice! It is a wonderful feeling knowing that people take the time to answer such questions...
I tried to take a drive Friday, my foot surgery is very slow recovery and, discovered it was not well, the moment I get better though, I will go to the black church up the street from me and talk to the pastor!
It used to be a white chuch which is where I was saved and baptized the first time when, I really didn't understand what it ment, the second time around it was another church and I understood this time...
I appreciate the encouragement, you are all in my prayers as well... Thanks, Scooby

Just walk through the door, it never stopped me from attending.
One day I was visiting a church and a member said, "We are so glad you are visiting with us today." I said, "What makes you think I am a visitor? This is the house of God and I am one of His children." She said, "Child, you're white. I know you are a visitor." (I was pulling her leg. Joking.)
I said, "The color of my skin should not determine whether I'm a visitor or member." She said, "Yes, Sister, this is true. I've been going here 30 years and I know everyone in here, but you." I finally laughed and hugged her. We remained friends long after that. That is one great Spiritual church! I love to visit there when I'm in the area. It is very uplifting!
