Keep your first meets short with room for something more if you're interested so you don't run into this problem. Let it be known from the beginning when setting up the date that you can't stay for very long and want it to be a quick meet.
Even if you're not interested you can manage to stick around for a half hour coffee date saving yourself to set up an excuse. Some people don't feel comfortable saying straight up that they're not interested, if you can be honest that's the best way to go about it. If not tell them that you're not feeling well and going home. That's all it takes.

No but I got a funny little story to tell actually. I live at my step moms house. She is clearly a homewrecker. I knew it RIGHT away. But she doesn't realize that I don't hate her for it. And nither does my dad. She invited this guy over for christmas eve one time. It got all awkward. So the guy did the right thing actually. He hailed a cab and took off because I kept giving him little signals. You should probably go, this is a LITTLE awkward. We are all here. Not a good idea buddy. So you know what he did? I didn't even have to tell him to, I just gave him little signals. I know you like her but it's probably not a good idea right now.
He actually picked up my signals. I dunno how he did it.

You've got to progress and not just dive in to it.. Start off talking online, talk on phone, then go on date.. that reduces the awkwardness. I'd never meet sometime without having conversations first! That way I know we get along well, and the date is just the next logical step to building a bond.

A girl once told my friend that she looked totally what she didn't look like, so his girl and the both of us could go on a double date. When we showed up to the mall, where we both met I saw that she was a total 180 from her description. I didn't entertain the situation at all I just walked past her into the mall and went to Foot Locker. That was the end of that.

I said a friend was broke down and couldnt find anyone else to come help him on my last date, plus used the excuse that i was sick to get out of another date with the same woman after i found out she lied to me
So its okay for you to tell lies... But not okay for someone to lie to you.

I did that. I felt soooo bad afterwards too. And then he sent me a message a few hours later asking if the emergency was over. I didn't answer. Oh, I felt so bad.

I recently went out with a guy totally great guy thought it went well he asked if we'd go out again I was happy then during the week I was getting the feeling he was gonna back out of the day and he did I texted him he hasn't replied great guy wish we could have at least been friends but maybe he may call or txt me I thought highly of him Idk what I did wrong but I think it's a good example of guys not being clear he didn't have to make plans maybe I forced the plans idk

I haven't lied to get out of a date. I normally suggest something quick to do like get coffee or drinks, if I like him I continue with the date.
I don't like lying or being rude so that method works pretty well.

Excuses are lies I don't have time for those. This one guy went out with was not my type but I wasn't going to be rude. We went on our first part of the date which was a museum then we were suppose to head to the movies. Instead I told him I wasn't feeling the movies but I had a good time and would get in touch with him later. Later that night I sent him a text saying he was a great guy but I just didn't feel we had chemistry. I suggest be upfront no one likes to be kept on hold

When I was in college I ran out on a date. I sent him out for beer and when his car was out of sight I took off. I do not o that anymore. If I am miserable on a date i try to keep it short.

I had a conversation with a guy on the phone and knew right away that i didn't even want to go on the date. So, to "get out" of the date that was planned. I told him the truth... I told him that i really didn't see the point in wasting his time or mine because he didn't take my breath away... I was nice and wished him well on his search.. it may seem harsh but, isn't honesty the best option?

Once at Hedonism in Jamaica, I made us partners instead of blew her off. I suggested we both go over to the "library," bar that is now a restaurant, and try to troll for a guy for her or a girl for me or a bi girl for us. We parted when some guy "bought her a drink;" they were free. It worked.

I agree with the opinions of others here. Make the first time or date short so if you dont like each other or uncomfortable, you can just say it was nice meeting you and walk out. I have cancelled dates to say it was raining and I dont drive in it. Thats for sure lame because I can drive in any kind of weather. No need in being miserable if you are unhappy being there with him/her. Ladyd

If its a first date I never let it be something where you would be stuck for a long time anyway. Something like dinner is fine because even if its not going well you can be done within an hour if you really wanted to.
I'm new to this online dating world where you have a meet before a real date so I don't yet know how to differentiate the two. I guess with a meet you'd want to keep it even simpler. For instance I just had my first one last night and it was a perfect type of location, a quaint little wine bar near my building. I stayed longer than I felt like but the guy wasn't really bad or anything we just didn't have chemistry so I didn't feel compelled to end it quickly. If I wanted to I could have easily ended it earlier though.

I met a guy on a free site like this back in 2010, lol....and I had totally forgotten about this so I'm laughing my a** off right now. But I was supposed to meet him for the first time at a local mall and he was there waiting and I was in my car driving around and I asked him to go outside so I could see him and he did and he was so freaking fat, I'd never seen anyone that fat before in my life!! I am only a tiny thing and he knew this and he knew what type of man I wanted to meet by my profile on that site too. He was a LIAR and I wasn't going to meet him and he deserved it when I bailed. I told him by text that I had to go pick up my child at daycare because an emergency came up with her and he believed it. I never contacted him again and got my cell phone number changed. What a nightmare!

Why not just be straight forward? Unless you sense the other person might not take it so well and cause a scene?
Because people lie. I only did this when a guy lied about what he looked like and that's not cool to lie about your looks. I wouldn't do that. Plus, if you don't know the person and it's the first time meeting them it's not like you bailed on a real relationship. Nothing even got started.
