Nope, like I said, "stories".
If anyone had proof then people would be in jail.
I did hear it from actual Russians though (my stepfamily), so I have to wonder a little. Think he also said something about the KGB. But he also said this only involved women actually coming from Russia. Like the whole mail-order bride thing etc.
So not counting all the Russian-Americans in Alaska or the Pacific Northwest because we have a LOT up here. Some 2nd-3rd generation, and some fresh off the boat.
No doubt such a thing probably has happened before at some point in the past though. Its perfectly within the realm of possibility, so I thought it perhaps worth mentioning

the only experience i have had is with the russian ladies from across the pond. initial cost was prohibitive. if the ones you have communicated with here look anything like the young ladies i have had the pleasure of viewing, it sounds as if your expenditures will be quite minimal by comparison.

I was married to a Russian woman for a few years, and have dated a couple afterwards, and well I have to say, I haven't had a bad experience yet. None any different then dating American women. The relationships didn't work out however, to no fault of either one of us, just didn't work, doesn't mean I'll turn down a date from a Russian woman if the opportunity arises.
Then again, I don't mind paying for dinner and a movie.......
