Okay got a New Project going...
...I called the City of San Antonio to see about if I need a permit to build a 10x12 storage shed... Nope so I am going to build 2 of them and put a 6 foot breeze between them...with only attaching the roof.. Then I want to sell my High Cube Trailer I have that I use for storage.. Being I have 5 Trailers I really need to sell three of them.. already
sold one and going to sell two more enclosed Car Haulers .. leaving me with one enclosed and a Flat Tilt trailer to haul cars.. in the future...

Bub and I are one the same page. Joe came up and helped me put an old window in the hole in the semi trailer where the compresser used to be. Hey..it is a semi trailer and has wheels...so doesnt that count as a ratrod. Kinda. Some year. Except for moving my plow truck to the barn, fixing the brake on the truck and one car show..not a damn thing done so far is CAR RELATED!!!! Crappy weather and priorities seem to be getting in the way. Dang it. Those flames are cool..not the best I have seen..but not bad. Watched car warriors last nite...did beetles. Sorry..even if you customise them...they still look like a beetle!

My grandson Ethan in the Hot Rod Corvette I bought him. He has already learned how to start it up in reverse and then floor it and power shift into forward so it spins the wheels..... Hope I live long enough to see him drive a real car!

Bub, you know we wont let you go til youre a 100! I was reading in rat rodz about how whimpy Vettes were originally. They couldnt hold a candle to the tbirds. Until much later when they got some horsepower. I liked the 69 and he cut down the 68-82s as no power. He has been bummed with newer vettes til this series..7 I think I read. Says that GM has re-captured the style and more of what a vette is supposed to be. As opposed to the tbird which went down the tubes into sedans.

That is true Orz
~ In the 80s, with all the air emissions crap they put on the vette, It could drop the horsepower down to only 190 hp !!! (350 motor)
~ Its a shame what they did to the American sports car.
~ Love those 350ci ~ 300 hp and of course the 454s ~ Power. With those cars when you hit the gas ~ Your girlfriend wasn't going to play with anything on the dash ( radio, heater, air, vent )
~ BTW ~ There were some great women drivers out there too. (With major tuned Vettes )

A properly tuned 66 vett with solid lifter Z28 cam in a 327 - 350 hp motor could litterly a$$wipe any 427 vett of the day. I know cause I had one and it had never ben beat in a race ever before I bought it or affter. the guy before I owned it ran it with a 4:56 rear end but put in a 3:02 when he sold it. I would shift at 7500 RPM's it would do 90mph in 1st gear then pull a wheelie in 2nd from 90 to 120 by then I was 3car ahead of any 427 going it to 3rd gear buyied them by 8 or 9 cars in no time at 140 I would shutt down with a thousand RPM's left in 3rd gear with 4th gear to spare. It had 11" M&H slicks on the rear. I had to be easy on the take off & not burn the sliks as the clutch would not take it so the 427's always got a 6 car lead at the start but I always had them caught buy the time I shifted to 2nd gear. My vett had a 427 hood so it was always fun when they wanted to see my motor.

LOL. Rain again yesterday. Took a garden arbor I had gotten at resale under the pergala..kind of handy not having the plow truck filling it...and put the pipes together. And..no screws in the box. So now have to hunt up screws that fit and hope I have 22 of them. One of the *$%!#^*( in life is that even though I maintain enough nails, bolts, screws and whatever on my farm to fill a hardware store..I still NEVER have the right size!!! Every screw, nail or whatever I remove when I scrap something, goes into jars...and jars...and jars. I do for some reason seem to have an abundance of 5/16th bolts tho. Why did I keep picking up that size? Rained half the day AGAIN. Partly cloudy today, sunnier tomorrow and Wed..rain!!!!!!!!!!

I have so many cans and jars of screws, nails, bolts, washers.....etc that I can never find the right size anymore......
So..... I usually drop in to my buddy's ACE Hardware store and buy what I need..... maybe, this summer, I will start getting rid of the jars..... some of them I inherited from my Dad, who inherited them from my Grandpa..... I did throw out the jar of bent nails from Grandpa..... he grew up poor and I recall actually having to straighten out a nail or 2 for him when I was a kid..... funny how times change.....

I go to the hardware store and forget what size it is I need. So either pick up 5/16th lol, or the size I think. Which of course is wrong. Dad brought his one brother and wife here from Germany long ago. Trained surgical tool and die maker. But he wouldnt go forth cause he was scared and didnt know English. Dad said they would teach them..no. One day mom said he came up from his factory to their apartment with a coffee can full of nails. ??? He said look..this is what Oscar did all day. Went in the basement, saw the bent nail can and straightened them all. Presented them proudly to dad on the way upstairs. He said thanks. Told mom...what am I supposed to do with these. First hit they will bend again!!! That was the point where dad decided his brother and wife would never stand on their own with dad supporting them and gave them a month to get a job and apartment of their own. They did and he never saw them again. Anyway>>>>> never get rid of those jars. As soon as you do you will find you need a bolt for a car that just happened to have been saved...if..you havent dumped them!

The hens must be off bugging. I see the grounds are getting kinda thick. Maybe need to change the filter so something gets through. Oh well...just grabbing some sandpaper so I can get back to work on my wheel chuck. Seize ya!

you guys have winter ?
Steve....I think San Antonio got down to freezing for a couple of hours a couple of different nights..
................Can't remember...
Guess this one kind of makes you think???
A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the engine of a BMW M3 when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop. The cardiologist was waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his car when the mechanic shouted across the garage: "Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?"
The cardiologist, a bit surprised walked over to where the mechanic was working on the car. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I opened its heart, took the valves out, repaired or replaced anything damaged, and then put everything back in, and when I finished, it worked just like new. So how is it that I make $24,000 a year and you make $1.7M when you and I are doing basically the same work?"
The cardiologist paused, leaned over, and then whispered to the mechanic, "Try doing it with the engine running."

No thanks. When would I ever get any rest if it wasnt for winters. And I sure the hell dont want to live in 102 in the shade temps day after day! The boys are getting geared up for Back to the 50s. Joe put his truck up on Tony's lift and it was as good thing. Somehow the bolt on one shock had walked it way out and was gone. They are getting hepped on the run there..head out Thursday and come back Saturday. Hey Bub, sweetie pie...is your car ready to rock and roll? Does all the cars and people make driving around town a pain too or do they all sit in the one area. Maybe someday I will ride along and see what 12,000 rods look like all in one place. Anyone have a horse I can borrow and ride around the venues!!!??? Wheel chock is almost done. I need to take it out and check it under a tire. And also need to drive the bullfrog down the road since I havent gone to town for half a month again. Blow the rains out of it.

Hey Miss Orz! Nope, Bub's car is not ready. Emergency bedroom building job is going to kill my 50s trip this year. The traffic keeps moving pretty well. The area around the State Fair Grounds gets pretty congested, but does keep moving. People line up in lawn chairs along the main drag past the Fair grounds in their lawn chairs for miles watching the cars. I may go down to the registration hotel and pick up my wristband and watch the cars up there on Thursday. Extremely disappointed, but family comes first.
One of these years, I will violate my 26 mile rule and come down and pick you up so you can see the 50's. It is Nirvana! You will see more old Chebbie trucks there in one day than you will see the rest of your life. That place makes me crazy.

Thanks for the bit of Ford racing history Steve!
Dayum!!! I can't imagine the size of the bore in a 2 hole 539 CID engine.....
My cat could take a nap in there and then some.....
The biggest modern Caddy engine was 500 CID.....
Had one in a '27 bucket..... with a Turbo Hydro 400.....
Big wide "Sportsman" race tires on back..... (cat killers)
Could smoke 'em until I let off the gas..... DAYUM, that was fun!
We had a slogan way back then..... "Ditch the b*tch, let's go racing".....
I was pretty fond of my wife.....
so, I quit racing..... at least for a while.....
it's time for another rod..... no one left here to object.....
curly haired, moth eaten, snoring, farting, cover stealing ole dawg loves to go ridin.....

If it clears up the guy with the Model T's wants me to help him get them both running for Berry Pepper days, car show & parade & just fooling around.
I know now how much he wants for the roadster,$12,000.00 It's worth it in my mind but right now my pockets are empty.

Motor and Star have it.... the slant 6.....
Lovingly referred to as the drunken 6..... very tough.....
could be hot rodded like the Chevy Stovebolt.....
even could be had from the factory with:
"From mid-1961 to 1963, 50,000 225-cid Slant Six engines were produced with an aluminum engine block. These were discontinued because production was slower, more expensive, and not as reliable as with the steel blocks, according to various allpar.com interviews.
The Hyper-Pak was available for the 170 and 225 slant sixes. It had a radical cam, Carter AFB 3083S four-barrel carburetor on a long-ram intake manifold, steel tubing exhaust headers, higher compression pistons, and a special exhaust. Advertised at 195 hp (gross output, for the 170), Hyper-Pak engines were the rulers of the lower stock classes at the drag races, and the Hyper-Pak was available from dealers.
•Compression ratio: 11.5:1 (225), 10.5:1 (170)
•Brake hp: 195 at 5200 rpm (225), 148 (170) (factory specs)"
Got surprised once on the street by a guy with a drunken 6 Hyper-Pak! Dayum, that thing was quick!
Clifford company, who makes speed parts for the Stovebolt, made after market speed parts for the slant 6.

So what year did the chevy 6 go from a splash system to a oil pump?

Thanks for the information Steve...
Here little on the Chevrolet/GMC straight six (stove-bolt era) engines..
"A six for the price of a four"
The first mass-produced GM inline 6 was introduced in 1929 on Chevrolet cars and trucks, replacing the company's first inline-4. Richard Grant (Chevrolet marketing executive) insisted that the new design boast overhead valves. Chevrolet had long been known for its "valve-in-head" four-cylinder engines. William S. Knudsen's cast-iron wonder was produced through 1936.
194
It was 194 cubic inches (3.2 L) in size and produced 50 hp (37 kW). This engine used a forged steel crankshaft with three bearings and cast-iron pistons. Bore and stroke was 3.3125 in (84.14 mm) by 3.75 in (95.25 mm). The 194 was shared with Chevrolet and GMC trucks for 1935 and 1936.
A balanced crankshaft was introduced for 1932, while a higher (5.2:1) compression ratio upped output to 60 hp (45 kW). In 1934, a new cylinder head pushed output to 80 hp (60 kW).
Applications:
1929 Chevrolet Series AC International (Only $10 more than 1928s four-cylinder)
1930 Chevrolet Series AD Universal
181
A 181-cubic-inch (3.0 L) version was used by Chevrolet and GMC trucks in 1935 and 1936.
207
207-cubic-inch (3.4 L) variant was used by Chevrolet and GMC trucks in 1934, 1935 and 1936.
Why were they called stovebolts?
This name stovebolts came into common use as the 1/4? × 20 slotted-head bolts are used at numerous points on the engine (and body) of these cars. The slotted-head bolts are commonly used in the assembly of unwelded wood-burning stoves.
