Quote from wilbur1935:
At one time there were more coal mines in pa. than you could imagine.there was one right across the creek from where i live.there are still coal mines operating but not as many.i remember the old coal furnaces and cleaning out the ashes.they used the ashes on the roads in the winter .
......Them ole ashes were a little dirty but that coal made for some great heat. Miss it.

I remember the Coal burning stoves. They sure did put out a lot of heat. I know everything was nasty from the black smoke when you open the door on the stove. Wasn't those the Good OL'Days?????

Sure is different today...Golden. I remember when we heated with a Fireplace and a Cook stove. When it was cold...Water would Freeze in the house. But, as I remember, I was not sick a lot back then. I think I stay in to much when it gets cold now...Fresh Air is always good for the Lungs.

Me either...Golden. I remember the Fireplaces we had when growing up. I would come in from a very Cold Day and to get warm you had to face the fire warm that side, and then turn your backside to the fire and warm it.

Today I come in and stand over the Heat Vent.
