This has probably been done to death and I've probably not looked in all the right places to see if it has been, but I've got to ask -
How long is too long before two people who meet on these sites or even haphazardly in an IM chat room?
I mean, if you spend hours burning up the phone lines and computer lines, get along well that way, have established a mutual attraction is present, what should one or the other in the 'relationship' consider too long if one of the parties doesn't seem to want to move forward and meet face to face?
Just curious....

Hi Tig,
I talked to Donald for awhile then we met once.
Went on a date today but he was from another
dating site.
His name is Wooly he was really nice.
Have a second date only this time
we'll going for a ride on his bike.
Have you had any luck meeting anyone?

that would depend on how far apart you are, what you want from the relationship, and how often you chat.
if in the same state I would say 6 months.

If there is a long wait, there might be a reason, like he/she being married
or in a committed relationship and is simply fishing for sexy fun!
If you are able to drive there in 3 hours, I would say,
meet within a couple of weeks..You make up your mind,
believe it or not, based on your first visual inspection.
You might love his/her voice, or style of writing,
however if you cannot visualize
waking up to this person on the pillow
next to you, why would you continue
to be interested in a romantic relationship.
You can be friends with many, but only true and committed to one,
in a romantic way.
Meet and make up your mind based on your inner butterflies...
they are there, or they are NOT..if not,
part friends and look further.
Why waste time or emotions?

That's great Pat! Enjoy the ride! Did you get the house painted yet?
No, have chatted with great people in the Forums and have had one WINK so far. I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Anyway, I posted my thread in an effort to answer the question for a friend of mine who has been interacting with a gentleman for about 3 months now - they are about 5 hours apart. He travels for business and has made several soirees past and around the state where she lives, but has never stopped. Although he keeps saying he wants to meet her.
Myself, if my interest is piqued I want to meet sooner rather than later...just was wanting other perspectives about whether people preferred long or short duration intros before meeting!
Hope you had a great 4th!!

thanks for the perspective modest - so you'd say after 6 months and no face to face that it would be sayonarra(sp?)? you MUST be a patient man!
i guess if there were a good reason (like they were out of the country or something like that) why they couldn't meet sooner than 6 months it would be acceptable...not preferable, but acceptable.
me, i like to look someone in the eye and see the whole person instead of visualizing them in my mind constantly...
thanks for the insight!!

Hi there.
I agree with you! You've made some really valid points regarding the length.
I also believe is to short to waste time. Especially as we get older and life is passing us by.
Have great 4th of July!

Hi Tig,
How's it going? Just responding to your post. It all depends upon the timing and setting. The gut feeling is good also. No matter what always keep it friends and when
you do finally meet in a public setting then you will go from there it there's anything there. And it will not be hard to back out of & it keeps it honest both ways. Hope this helps a little.
Have a great 4th of July!!

Thanks Winesong...I've been wondering the same thing. Especially since he's driven on a whim with a friend to another state that was further in distance than it would've been to drive to see her, but can't seem to find the time to drop by in his meanderings to meet her.
He calls her constantly, IMs her, sends her e-mails - is very solicitous, just hasn't ponied up when it comes to the face to face.
She's confused and I'm stumped cos I don't understand it either. Unless, like you say, he's married, or in a committed relationship and just wants a dish on the side to entertain him.
Thanks for the insight!

I think if you are having regular contact and getting on well then a couple of months or a matter of weeks is ok to arrange to meet in person...If its been going on for long time and no meeting then i would be asking myself how fair dinkum is the chap...Otherwise it will just be another long distance chat thing...Go with your gut learn to trust it...Best of luck.

I think after talking on the phone and chatting and you both are looking for the same things in life, have the same interests, meet...the sooner the better....
