To bx_kitty: There is medication for the hi's and low's. Get to a doctor and try different med until you get the right combination for you!!!! that works. It's YOUR life and you need to work hard to work it out and enjoy life to it's fullest. BiPolor Disorder is not a death sentence, word with your doc and tell him/her you really want to be stablized and you will work with them.
Good luck and happiness to you all.
From a stabilized BiPolar who knows.......I worked hard to stabilized and stayed on my med!!!

I've had bipolar since my early teens now I'm in my late twenties, but I've been on so many different medications and now I've had to start a medication at night during the day because I'm going through alot right now more than I should which is difficult on me right now. But, I don't let it over run me because I just control it the best I can right now with all the stuff going on in my life I'm just trying not to over do it and let my disability run me over.

I am 28, bipolar/depressive. I have always known something wasnt right but it was only in the last few years that i was able to understand and get people to take notice, after 6 trys in 6 yrs i finally got approved for disability in 2006. After many yrs i have gained weight to the point i cant do certain things or i have to modify how i do things.
Many people in my life dont understand and i honestly think some just dont care, i am always home alone, no one calls or comes by unless i complain about it, if it werent for the homehealth i wouldnt see anyone for months at a time...

I had actually met someone in person from this site but when she found out I was Bi-polar,. . .pooof. . .she was gone. Sad too, because I am quite social and can be very funny. I just need to take meds and I am o.k. There is such a stigma. When will people learn

I found out that I had depression, six months before we learned that my husband of 22 years had cancer. I also have diabetes and I have for five years. Last year he passed away and I feel that is harder because of my challages. I have a great therpist and take meds and that helps alot. Sometimes it still hurts so bad, yet I am hanging in there, I have a ten year year old daughter to raise. Does anyone have any children and is it harder with your challages?

Also bipolar here. Its sad how many people are afraid of getting involved with someone suffering from it.
I just had a real bad experience the other day - I was on a dinner date and it came up, he made an excuse to step out and left me sitting alone at the restaurant. Talk about having issues and as far as I'm concerned, in that situation, I wasn't the one with the issues.
Sure, I have my ups and downs, but I am still a warm, loving, vital woman looking for someone who can see me as the person I am without any labels.

I am not bipolar, but I have schizoaffective disorder. I just got diagnosed schizoaffective last year, but before that they diagnosed me bipolar, before that they diagnosed me with depression and before that they diagnosed me with social anxiety disorder. The doctors have had me on so many different medications. I think time is helping me the most because right now I don't get out unless it is to play or go to sports. I have had trouble in restaurants where people can read my mind. I have been in a mental hospital four times in 5 years and I will kill myself before I go back.

bipolar with psychotic tendencies yeah its alot of fun. Thankfully I have a good group of supportive friends, but once a guy you want to date finds out about it pretty much they run and hide. My meds keep me pretty even when Im out and about, it gets the worst when I am lonely...and living alone that's alot of the time

First off, I hate to do this, BUT, (IF) you are bi-polar, you are bi-polar ALL the time. That way of thinking could get you in alot of trouble. Alot of bi's tend to start feelin good then go off the meds. BIG no no.
The meds are in place to keep you BALANCED for the most part, the rest of it is up to you. It's a 24/7 day job to maintain your own mental state of mind. If you slack off, well then thats when you, as I call it, flush the toliet. Once that water starts swirling, there is no stopping it, same with the doo doo that starts swirling in a bi's head. It can and does get out of control pretty quick. So STAY ON the meds, even in your good days.
To the person who believes ALL bi's are out of control, Try educating yourself and you will find what a silly statement you have made.
As for meeting people that are not educated with this disorder, there are ways around not having to go thru all this extra BS and headache of someone making you feel like crap. What I do is ask questions in a normal way, just changing subjects from one to the other, then just for giggles and grins throw in a question like, "do you know what bi-polar is?" If the answer is NO, End if discussion, and (I) do the leaving, if the answer is yes, then have them tell you what they know, and then I just sit back and listen. If it comes out like the one above, their nuts, again I say But if their answers are somewhat educated, THEN and only then do I tell them I am. In most cases, hell in ALL cases, people don't know I am til I tell them, then they are pretty surprised.
So it all in how you present yourself, I have bi-polar disorder but that is not who I am. I am for the most part balanced, happy and function on a pretty high level, but I am also human and do have bad days, the big difference is, they are only days insteads of wks and months. So if that makes me adnormal, so be it, I like being ME.

i am 50 dbf with bipolar, i live in winder ga area, would like to talk with someone who may understand it of has been diagnosed with it, it get a bit lonely when people just don't understand why you are being antisocial and just cut you off.. i am not bipolar all the time, sometimes i have really good days and some days well i hope you get the picture, i just thought i would try this sight
I know exactly how you feel. I am currently 22 and I have been bipolar as long as I can remember. When I am manic, I can't sleep for days (sometimes even weeks) at a time. However, that is much better than having to deal with the depressive side of it! I however, have a wonderful psychiatrist now and the episodes are fewer and don't last near as long with the mdeicine she has me on!
