Hey!!":0) I am not bi-polar.... but I certainly do relate to having others not understand. As a complication of a serious illness, I am deaf. It is not something people can see...and since I speak so well, people just don't get it. And I am not kidding.. my doctors of 20 plus years still write in their notes, that when I hear I understand better I don't hear at all.
I also know how Family does not always understand...it was and is very difficult for my father to accept my disability.
It is very difficult to have a disablity that no one can see. I also have the tinnitus or ringing in the ears, and often when I say I have a difficult time understanding, because of the noises in my head, people look at me like I'm nuts...and I'll say "well as long as the noises don't tell me what to do, I am ok!!!"

One of the worse things about being bi-polar is that you pass it on to your kids

You say that like you were serving up an hors devores, but I never met a bipolar case that didn't belong in an institution under close supervision. I'm sorry if that offends anybody, but first-hand experience is a crude teacher.
I had a neighbor. She was a former school marm and a LICENSED DRIVER that was a constant threat to everyone and everything around her. Her prescription-induced actions were not only unpredictable, she couldn't be held accountable for them. That is, until one day she tried to burn the building I lived in to the ground and they took her away.

Not everyone who is Bi-Polar is a nut. As long as you take your meds correctly and do what is needed you can perform as a normal human being... Have been bi-polar for years and have lead a very productive life.

I agree with the attitude statement "Like serving up hors devores"... Disabilites should be taken seriously by those who have them JMO

I still think a good amount of normal people, would actually just love to see the mentally disabled euthanized or locked up as it seems many don't think they belong in this so called world, I know 3 people with bi-polar and they do okay.. and try like hell to live a normal life . 2 I know are married with supportive spouses. the third,is a good male friend of mine , who is trying desperately to live a normal a life as possible , and is in university with a job on top of it... mental disorders are not to be made fun off, and people with them, all they want is to be accepted,

We all want to be accepted...no matter what our disability is. When we disparage ourselves and be angry and say mean things, that is all other people see. The disabled are entitled to what everyone else is, there is no entitlement to negative, agressive, abusive behavior by anyone, towards anyone. We cannot always guarantee that if we treat ourselves with respect that others will follow, but at least we will not give them ammunition, and reflect negatively on others with disabilities.
I am not saying that you do this... I have been thinking this for some time in this group, and felt it was just time to say it I guess
