Good question! As I think about it, I'd say "seeing someone" is more serious than "dating someone."
Seeing sort of seems serious. Dating sounds casual.

Yeah, I think "seeing someone" should be taken more seriously than "dating someone". "Seeing someone" implies a certain elevated level of commitment which is only obtained by first "dating"... hence, "dating someone". Which if your "dating someone" you wouldn't say that you were "seeing them first".

I look at seeing someone has more harmless because of the term seeing them- doesn't mean touching. Dating means something more serious.

"Hey man, did you get that wart thing on your balls looked at?"
"I'm seeing someone about it tomorrow."
"What about your girlfriend? You tell her?"
"She's not my girlfriend. We're just dating."

Seeing someone does not sound serious at all to me.Dating to me means you are in a relationship with that person. So dating sounds better to me. J/S

I thought they meant the same thing. When you get serious you say you are in a relationship.

Hmm interesting question, are they mutually exclsusive. I think dating has more to do with future expectations, all be it that, both parties are working towards the common goal of finding somebody wanting and willing to reciprocate, the amount of quality time needed in sustaining a vibrant and healthy relationship.
Seeing someone takes on variables un-imaginable. You could be seeing someone without seeing someone, kind a like having a crush. This at times turns on the notion of being beneficially mutual. You could see somebody with the intentions of dating them, but one might not see as well as the other. I would't say the same, because they enjoy each others company, while making their relations un-official.

I never really thought they were different. Thought if you're dating someone, you ARE "seeing" someone.

Dating is 1-4 dates when not getting any, after that, you see/f**k your gf/fwb while going out or not.

I don't recall ever having to know the difference. I always talked to the women I've dated so neither of us were confused by semantics.
