Just had to do this myself a couple of months ago and I know how hard it is to do. My dear Cuddles was only 15 years old. I still miss her.

KS I am so sorry about your cat. I had to put my little dog Charlie down several years ago and after a couple of years bought another little Maltese. His registered name is "Charlie Too" and everyone thought I was crazy naming him the same. For me it just helped fill the emptiness left by my first Charlie. They become our animal family and hurts very much to give them up. I know you have fond memories of the love your Petey brought to you over the years and I will be thinking of you on the 13th.

KS, I am so sorry for your pain, I have lost two dogs that were both over 15 years old. At times I felt so lost and so alone. But they gave me so much, the wonderful joy of laughter and their love, and now I have sweet memories of them.
They are little gifts from god. At first I could not even think about another animal, the pain was too great and I felt I would be betraying them, but along came a gift from god that I found out in the country, alone, scare and starved, he needed me and whether I knew it or not I need him
Then another from a grieving person who could no longer take care of her
And now this little lady, a product of my buying someone line about someone needing money badly
But now their is laughter in my house, although it is a mess at time, and their is love the greatest gift from god. And although god took your gift away, he will give you another, one who needs you, just as mine need me

You do what's right for your pet, no matter how much it hurts you.
Folks who don't love animals will never understand.
I wish you all the best.

KS, I know how it hurts dear but you must keep the thought of what is best for the pet in the forefront, I have alwys had 2-3 cats and dogs, and many have had to pass on, it was a painfull decision for me every time but it was best for them. I found it best to not dwell on it, go to the shelter and get another pet as soon as you can, you are NOT being disloyal to your kitty, but continuing on kindness in her memory. Good Luck, Jim

This is a story, sort of a parable someone told me. I take comfort in it whenever I miss my dogs Kloud and Jada...
A man named Jacob dies and goes through the light, finding himself on a dirt path which he begins to follow. He looks down and sees his beloved cat and dog walking along with him. They both brought much happines to him and his family so he was very glad to see them and be in their company once again. As they walk they are surrounded by beautiful forests, then fields, that eventually leads them up to a wood rail fence. Jacob stops by the fence and notices a man standing by one of the trees. He asks this man, "Do you know where I am?" The other man says, "Yes, this is heaven." "May I come in," Jacob asks. The other man says, "Of course!" As Jacob begins to walk through the fence, he looks down at his pets, then at the man, "May they come in also?" "Oh no," says the man, "they are not allowed to come in here." "Never mind", replies Jacob and he and his pets continue walking. Several hours later they see another wood rail fence and as they approach they notice another man standing at its gates. "Do you know where I am?", says Jacob. "Of course, says the man, "this is heaven". "may I and my pets come in, Jacob asks. The man replies, of course, you are all welcome. Jacob tells the man, "we were at a gate back a ways and the man there told us that it was also heaven but my pets were not welcome." "That was not heaven, that was that other place" said the man at the gate. Any person who leaves behind their best friends would not be welcome here."
Something to think about. It always comforts me. Remember the Lord places animals as pets down here on earth so we are reminded of the unconditional love he offers us and we spent the rest of our lives seeking.
God bless you and may you eventually find comfort in the memories of your time with your kitty.

KS, I am sorry for the loss you have suffered. Our pets do become our children and I know how hard it is. I have said for years that when one pet has gone I will not go through that pain again,,but,,alas we always do. My satchel, tan lab is really getting up in years, so I know we will be facing it again soon. God, I believe has a special plkace in heaven for our animals.I am sure you will see them again. God bless you, you will be in my prayers.

yep, that is my daughters four little piggies, she actually has five but she didn't get them all in the shot. The black dog is Milo, quite the goof, the boxer is Duchess , she is the one who had pups in March, and the Lab is my Satchel. He is such a good old boy. He took on a very mean dog for me while he was a pup and has been my constant companion ever since. My babies.(the four legged ones)

ks; yup, definitely "some hard times in the neighborhood" for you on this one,
and that's got to be much harder than having to give away your one and only
pet, my cat, Boots, because I couldn't have him, even outside at this new place.
Sorry bout' that, girl.
Just a thought, because my Mom did this for all her lost pets. The funeral home
always "gave' her this little plaque with her animal's name on it, that she
put in the ground under one of her favorite trees. They did it for free, but then she lived in the same town for 78 years. If you're interested in something like that
you might check with one of yours.
Very hard, very hard, in deed. Elly

ks, I have a kitty named, Oscar, that I just finished posting a picture of in the "Man in my life" thread. He is now twenty and a half years old. I know the time will come soon when I have to do what you are about to do for Petey. I dread that day more than anything.
I know you love Petey, because you are thinking of him and he loves you. Thanks so much for letting us share in your pain and your love.

I've lost lots of friends in my life but it is rare to lose one as close as all my four legged friends. I still have fond memories of so many that have passed on... Lady, Laddie, Tyler, Spot the cat, and Billy my scarlet McCaw. This is just a short list of so many I have known and loved and were so dear to me. Their love transcended and surpassed any human love I've known.
