ks, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Your Petey is going on to a much better place and someday you will see him again. You are making a decision that will be heart felt in many ways, but know you are making the right decision for your friend. Take care of yourself, for he would want you to be happy. That's why he has been your friend for so long.

I am so very sorry about the decision that you have to make on Wednesday. I have 2 cats (Aaron and Megan). They are my babies and I love them very much. I know that your sorrow will be tremendous on Wednesday but remember you are doing this from love because it is best for your little one. Remember the joy and love that you and Petey have shared and that you will be reunited someday. I truly believe that we will see our pets again when we have passed. God bless you and I will be praying for strength for you to get through this ordeal Wednesday and the days and months to come.
God bless,
Sandy

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So how odd do you think this is?
I've struggled with this decision wondering if it's the "right" time to lose Petey, but kept my resolve. Spent his last nite snuggling with him and loving him. I put him in his kitty carrier this morning and drove into town to the vet's. As we walked into the office I was informed that there had been an emergency and I would have to wait a half hour or so or I could leave him and come pick up his remains later on. Both solutions were unbearable. I became so choked up that I could only wave my hand at the lady and said "I can't do this." And we drove back home with Petey hollering. So was I granted a reprieve? Is this God's way of telling me "it's not time to let him go." Or am I just being a coward?

You're not a coward KS, just not ready to let him go yet. Petey will tell you when he's ready and you will know. You're in my thoughts

Bring him up Honey!
There's plenty up here he hasn't peed on yet!!
It's a lot warmer, up here, than he is used to - that may help at night!
Fighting with the dog may be a blood moving and helpful thing for him too!
Plus, the kids are great with cats and he would have a ton more loving by the time he needs to take a nap.
Besides, he likes me and I like him!!

KS, I thought about it being the day around 2 this afternoon (would be 11 a.m. your time). Glad to see you may have him around a little longer. I almost put my chow down last August and my son said "No not yet, he still enjoys eating and he tries hard to play" He was 18. Finally the first of June he fell and couldn't get up...he was put down the next day, but got lots of love and attention (which he got anyway) the night before. No one could sleep for having to lay next to him.
You'll really know when it's time. And maybe Petey will just go to sleep and not awaken. A peaceful departing is what I hope for Petey.

Atl I am so sorry about your pet as well. I had to put one down too..that is why we all have thought of Ks52 today and praying for her. It is very hard...even my grown son cried with me that day. He took Charlie to the vet for me so I wouldn't have to be there and he held him while they gave him the shot...when he got home he had been crying and I stood up and we hugged and wept together. Again I am so glad you have Petey for a while longer....

My heart goes out to you. I had to do just that last month. Cesar was 15 years old cat with liver failure. The words could not hold to the pain we all felt when we had to hold him and say good bye. I can still see him standing at the door of the vets looking at us and saying with only his eyes come on now I need to go home. The vet swooped him up laid him on the cold steel bed and gave him a shot. We all gathered to pet him one more time and to say our good byes, then he slept and we walked out the door with tears in our eyes. Nothing was going to replace that silly old cat. Nothing could give us the loving that he gave. Like the times you would be reading and he would set on the book, or when we where at the computer he would do the same. I know most cat act this way, but to us only ours did. Any way I what you to know that I will hold you in prayer on that day and hoe that you find peace. lots of love your way Buffy1953
