Online flirting is not cheating.
If you never meet, never intend to meet or have any real desire to meet then its not cheating.
(and your probably flirting with a 300lb 45yr old dude anyway)

Cheating ??? It is just plain DISRESPECTFUL. The whole thing is an individual emotional attitude---if there is nothing to hide--then chats should be an open thing that everyone knows about--A secret--"do it while you're home alone " chat is probably going to cause trouble. Never do anything that you would not want your spouse or special friend to know about. If you are doing it or talking filthy to some member of the chat community---it is not such a hot idea. If you chat about day to day stuff--just to be friends---it shouldn't be a problem. But everyday with the same person---all night long--in the dark with a flashlight---sitting on a lawn chair with wet underwear---then it is not right. If you have time to chat on line---then you got time to be talking with your at home spouse or partner. It is all in the perception---how your mate views it. Jealous types can really be offended by these chats---so why even cause trouble?? What could you possibly have to say to someone in Idaho---from Florida??? HI--I went to the beach----and he played in the potato fields. Big deal!!!

Well, they are talking, on line, but where do you draw the line? Say it was on the telephone all the time, or over coffee all the time..... same thing in my book, cheating!! Taking way time from your sig/other. Yep, ask them how would they like it if the fields were reversed. Bet you have your answer - and it is disrespectful!!
Doesn't sound like love to me, and if hidden, no hope - no stay.
While this internet is great for making new friends, forums like this are great, fine, but this isn't 'chatting' and not cheating - unless you make it so.

This was one of the main reasons for my divorce! My ex found nothing wrong with chatting online with strange women and forming relationships there. All the while, there I was waiting for some freakin attention from him! I swear, he got up at 3 pm, took a beer from the fridge, told me not to say anything to him yet because he was still asleep, then proceeded straight to the computer!!! I had little "talks" with him about it - very mature of me - but when I objected to the online relationships, he would bring up men in my past! Talk about trying to deflect the subject at hand!!!
Look at my picture. I am not ugly, I am fun loving, warm, sensitive and caring. Wait - I married a narcistic, drunken jerk - that is the problem!!! I found a tape recorder I had hidden during our war of the roses divorce and played what was on the tape. It was our so-called "reconciliation" talk....at 2:30 am! Yeah, he liked to have major discussions at this hour, knowing I was mostly asleep and he was mostly drunk. Then he would pick a fight and go back to the computer. Geesh!!!
Am I the only wife who was abandoned for an online life???

A good topic....
One that I think everyone in this modern age of the internet....
with the cost of living the way it is...
the modern demands we make on each other..
could it be the easy route for people to take
when we are not getting enough attention from a partner at home...

If we met on the site and she was just talking to friends, and had made it clear she was taken and not available, then it wouldn't be what I would consider cheating anymore that talking to friends on the phone or at the bar or something. HOWEVER if she was flirting and erasing everything before she shut down, then it's cheating and the word is GOODBYE.
I'm not the jealous type, unless I should be and then I'm knw as the guy who used to be.

I personally had a "situation" about this earlier in the week. Fella (married for many years) contacted me re: a group I belonged to - we used to go to the same bar 30 years ago. He was very nice, very chatty and easy to talk to. Could tell by his profile pics he was a very "social being" but I couldn't help but feel for his wife. And in this case I didn't feel comfortable. WTH would she think if she found out he'd been talking to a single woman (even tho I had no bad intentions..who's to know for sure?) I ended up thanking him for the walk down memory lane and wishing him well...but he wrote again (I didn't answer back). The next day his profile poofed (who's doing, gawd only knows since he had said he was going to the States on business lol)...now it's back, but no family pics or mention of him being married.

if it something that you would hide from your lover then its probably inappropriate at best but cheating is extreme if ALL you do is chat it up be realistic if you are not meeting the people from the chats then dont sweat it

Firstly, there is a big difference between "chatting" online, "flirting" online and "cheating" online. Chatting is just chatting. I chat face to face with the dude at the Speedway whenever I stop to fuel up (yes, I pay cash). That does not mean that I am flirting with him or have any interest in hooking up with him. Flirting online is expressing interest in the person in a humorous manner, like pokin fun (no pun) or hinting at without actually trying to pursue it. Now cheating online is actually trying to hook up with some dude or chick for "the act".
So to answer the question, "chatting" online is not cheating. Flirting online is borderline for some. "Cheating" online happens when you are in an exclusive relationship where you use the same words used to reinforce your love for the person that you are with to woo another - having the intentions to take it further than just "chatting" or "flirting".
