When I was a teenager I was visiting my cousin in Washington, DC and her friend from Brooklyn, NY was visiting at the same time. When we three got together (I'm from NC) it was hilarious! Everyone always wanted to hear me say "boil an egg" - still have no idea why?

Dialects are interesting. Coming down The Ohio River there are over 23 regional accents and sometimes only one mile apart. and that's just one area of the country.
I have my dads WV coal miners accent. I guess because he grew up in the lead mining camps and a lot of coal miners came in when they started underground mines

I was born on Guam, lived in Okinawa, New Mexico, Germany, and moved to Texas when I was 8. You would think that I would have a crazy mixed up accent, but since my parents were native Texans, I was raised right.
Now, do y'all have eny more questions? Ah'm fixin ta warsh the dishes, then I gotta wrench em.

Well I am from Kentucky.NORTHERN Kentucky..Around here we don't have a accent..I am on the phone all day with tax players trying to convince them I really am the irs and then to convince them the service center is in ky... They say you don't sound like a Kentuckian lol..Now two or three countys down or east or west they have accents...
I lived in killeen tx for 18 months. When I came back from Tx I sounded more like a Kentuckian than when I went there..People down there kept saying slow down you talk to fast lol..
Added... There is something about a low southern voice on a man that makes me weak lol..

I was raised in Texas but moved to Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas then Arkansas and back to South Carolina. So my accent is a bit mixed BUT what is funny is when I go to Texas and I'm deep into an area that has the heavier accent I tend to start talking with a heavier accent. Then I get back to SC and my accent kind of sways a bit more towards a deep south accent but it's not heavy it's lite. But I noticed when my children were little, when I read the Texas accent falls out. So if I read out loud or I'm tired the Texas accent will come out more but still I don't think it's heavy.
There are a few people I've talked with over the phone from here and they say it's not a heavy accent.
My son-in-law if from Chicago and they live here in SC and my granddaughter has the accent and it drives my DSIL up the wall. It's so funny and sometimes she will pour it on just to give her Daddy a hard time. She's only 8.

My ex-husband was from Bucyrus,an hr from Columbus, Ohio, and I always thought of that area as a non-accent-accent area, overall...I loved to hear them talk. Those dear people made me think of sweet Southerners without the Southern accent and I forgave them for not talking "right".
