One thing is for sure in America: we all speak English, but it all sounds different! Most people can tell exactly where you're from as soon as you speak! Do you have any stories about American regional accents?
My niece Amy was about 5 when her parents moved the family from southwestern Pennsylvania to Houston, Texas. One summer when she was in her early teens, she was spending some of her summer vacation back here in PA. She heard my mother talking and using the Pittsburghese term "younz," the plural version of "you," as in, "what are younz doing?" Amy looked at her grandma and said, "YOUNZ?? What's that mean? Y'ALL talk funny up here!"

I am from Oklahoma...even have a strong accent for Oklahoma! When I lived in OKC they would laugh at me for my SE Okie accent, so obviously I have a very distinct accent. I actually heard myself on tape once and thought "OMG is that me?".

Whatsa Matta wid youse guys, Dere ain't no assents on here , its dose guys on toid street dat talk like dat.
Of coirse being from Philly, I do have an accent, but everywhere you go now they are rapidly disappearing, I think largely due to television. I know when I went thru boot camp at Parris Island in 1958, you cut cut the SC accents with a knife, now returning in 2001, you hardly ever hear it at all. In my family some of them spoke Celtic, the rest with Irish brogues, all very confusing to a kid. I do love some of the accents you hear tho, and yet some just grate me like hard cheese. Its all a matter of taste

Back in 1993 I moved from California to Georgia. I was at a bus station when a young man walked up to me and asked what city he was in. My reply was this is Cordell but was pronounced differently due to where you were from and the accent. The little gal behind the desk told him what the towns name was with the accent from a Georgian and the then the bus driver who was from New York pronounce the towns name with his accent. I then told the young man see what I mean about the differences of the town name depending on where you are from. Both the driver and the little gal behind the desk looked at me and said that I was the one with the accent. Never knew that Californians’ had a accent.

You mean like this?
Sven and Olaf worked together in a Minnesota factory....and both were laid off. So...dey went to the Unemployment Office together.
Asked his occupation, Olaf said, 'Panty stitcher. I sew da elastic onto da ladies cotton panties.'
The clerk looked up panty stitcher. Finding it classified as unskilled labor, she gave Olaf $300 a week in unemployment compensation.
Sven, when asked his occupation replied, 'Diesel fitter.'
The clerk looked up diesel fitter...and it was classified as a skilled job. So, the clerk gave Sven $600 a week in unemployment compensation.
When Olaf found this out, he was furious ! He stormed back into the office to find out why his friend and co-worker was collecting double his benefits.
The clerk explained, 'Panty stitchers are unskilled labor and diesel fitters are skilled labor.'
'Dat's skill?' yelled Olaf. 'I sew da elastic on da panties. Olaf puts dem over his head and says,
'Yah ------------- DIESEL FITTER.' !!!!

Oh Yes I have an accent, that southern drowl accent. I was told one time by a lovely lady that is no longer with us, that I had the Southern Bell accent that the men would drool over....
Of course, I have been made fun of for it too....
As for other accents, I hear them all the time, some I like, some I don't, but some I just Love....
