It's primarily in the city. You won't see many people in cowboy hats here. That's just an outdated stereotype.

But my kinfolk are from west tx and it's no different from where I'm at....just bustling city suburbs.

Houston is an awesome town. I've been there about 7 or 8 times in my life.
I got a pic of me in a 'hat' I'll upload it into my profile, when I get the time. But it was only for a pic, I don't wear it. lol

Interesting side note:

With W. Texas soooo flat and no trees...As you look down the driveway waaaay into the field the line of horizon is actially the Midland Angels baseball stadium.

Well every July 4th at 9 pm... they would put on a spectacular fireworks display easily seen from our driveway literally miles away open ground.

One July 4rth I set her in a lawn chair about where the caddy is parked and walked down to the end of the driveway and as the 2nd hand was sweeping to 9 pm said "Tara... Do you love Daddy?"

And she said "Yes Daddy...Very much!"

And I said "Daddy loves you so much its MAGIC!"

And I threw my arms into the air and the sky above me exploded in technicolor.

I remember the delight on her face when as she thought I was magical, and was able to do that for her.

Damn. What fathers will do for their daughters.
