Absolutely not. Starbucks first of all is one of the most high priced coffee joints around. At around 5.00 for a cup and it tastes no better than the shit I can make at home for a fraction of that.
Coffee dates are a great way to get to know each other without having to spend a small fortune only to find out at the end if the night that you're not as.comparable as you thought you were.

OP a date is a nice dinner and a movie or dinner and a walk on beach or park. Starbucks isent a date. Now it would be after a nice dinner and movie. But starbucks alone no.

I think a coffee meet and greet is a wonderful way to meet someone new. There is no obligation. It is about casual conversation and chance to learn more about each other. If I want to see them again, then I will take them out for a dinner date or an evening with dancing and drinks.

I don't think you are cheap to meet at a Starbucks for a meet and greet. My last date brought an empty paper Starbucks cup to our Starbucks meet and greet. I found his behavior weird.

I prefer a local sportsbar for a cpl drinks and conversation if it's an initial meetup. You have an "out" not goin well,get up and leave. If ya hit it off,then go on a "date" Starbucks is too busy and loud sometimes.plus I prefer evening meet ups,and I don't want caffeine at 8 pm.

I wouldn't become worked up over a first meet n greet/date. all you have to go on is fueled mostly by your imagination/wants/needs/desires.
For my money and enjoyment value I'd prefer a cold beer warshing down a rib sandwich over some pleasant conversation perhaps accompanied by some jukebox tunes in the background.
I enjoy a beer w/meal. I'm particularly fond of rib sandwiches and I'm the bloke pluggin' the box, so I'll enjoy the music as well. If there's no magic or even if I'm stood up it's all good as I leave a happy camper.

Coffee meet is fine,no matter where you go to get it..and depends on the time of day you meet..first meet shouldn't cost a man an arm an a leg.. if dinner meet then you should have been talking awhile an pretty sure you might enjoy their company,an learn more of that person,an see if she/ looks like their picture.which some don't.
