You find yourself in a relationship with someone who has an extreme attachment to their cats and you are allergic to them. You wake up in the middle of the night because one has fallen from it's perch on the headboard onto your face and your sudden reaction is to toss it at the wall. Your significant other screams at you for harming the furry beast.

At dawn, significant other takes a shower so hot in the spare bathroom where the litter box is and steam vaporizes the entire house with the scent of stale cat urine.

You've prepared a gourmet meal and set an elegant table only to find that the cats have climbed on the table and left pebbles of litter on the placemats.

You find cat fur left behind on the sofa pillows, and claw marks on brand new furniture that is now being used as a scratching post.

You have arrived home to find potted plants turned over and destroyed, dirt all over.

Significant other refuses to rehome the beasts.

What do you do? Tell significant other to GTFO or spend a fortune on allergy shots and live amidst the destruction?

Once again this thread is not about me, but about my son. Yeah I should have known better than ask opinions on any subject relating to relationships of any sort in the relationships forums.

GOD FORGIVE ME!

let thread die now as I've broken the almighty code of DH and went against the grain of the populace and started a legitimate thread!

I dont own a cat. When I did...they went out the door. In the last six months I have cleaned more catboxes than I ever did when I owned a cat. People who need their homes watched, forget their cats stink! First thing I do, and ya...my favorite bitcb. Can't you smell that????

OP, first things first, why would you already be LIVING with someone who has cats if you

knew you had an allergy and don't really like cats in the first place? That would be

like moving in with someone who has children living in the home still and you hate their

kids. You knew what you were getting yourself in to.

What do you do?

Tell my son he made his bed, he has to sleep in it, and don't come over until he washes the cat stink off him because I'm deathly allergic to the damn things too.

Tell significant other to GTFO or spend a fortune on allergy shots and live amidst the destruction?

Personally, I just don't date people with cats.
To me cats are right up there with child molesters and abusive spouses.

So I would not have begun to date her in the first place.

If someone was dumb enough to date someone with a bunch of cats then he has to accept the cats because they are going to be treated pretty much the same as the person's kids.

...I think that puts me in the "tell significant other to GTFO" category.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I'm outta there! Someone who's allergic to cats can't have a relationship with the crazy cat lady. And there's no way she'll get rid of the kitties. It's easier for her to dump the guy and buy another cat and hope the County doesn't come investigating.

I have had two cats Dallas. An ex bf who stalked me killed one of them, and the other one died of old age last year.

If my current landlord would allow animals, I'd take the cats belonging to my sons gf but I can't. Anyway it's not my problem, it's theirs to work it out. I just thought the situation would make a legitimate thread topic to post for different opinions.

Your son knew his fiance had cats. He knows he's allergic to cats.
He willingly moved in with his fiance and her cats. He not only moved in but asked her to marry him even after knowing she has cats.
We all make compromises when we're in relationships but asking her to get rid of her cats whom I assume she had before he came along is wrong. Compromises are about both people being mutually satisfied. No one wins if she rehomes her cats.
He has a major decision to make. Stay and take allergy shots for the rest of his life (without complaining) or move out.

I wish him the best.

Cats are not allowed on the table, ever.

If you have a cat the litter box needs to be frequently cleaned. Cats don't like the smell of stale urine either. If you have more then one cat you need #of cats + 1 litter box.

Probably tell them to leave.

It's like anything else in a relationship. The fact that it involves pets doesn't make any difference. You either stay in the relationship and accept the consequences and the "price" so to speak, or you don't.

I'm just surprised no one has pointed out any of the obvious jokes about buying one p*ssy by taking on another one.

Come on now!!! I admit, cats are like kids, they behave the way you raise them. I've seen unruly cats just like I've seen unruly kids.

I have 2 cats and they dont use the litter box. When they wanna go out they'll call someone in the house to let them out and then back in. lol I only keep it in an emergency. Lmao Like a blizzard or no ones home and they can't hold it. lol

But they dont claw furniture, shed hair or go to ppl who dont call to pamper them first. They are spoiled rotten but they are very well behaved bcuz I raised them that way.

Zerbubuth is the oldest and Sarcophagus is the youngest.

It's not cute when your 100lb dog thinks you came over specifically to pet him nor that he is small enough to be a lap dog lol Animals need to be taught manners too.

Is your son's fiancee aware that he is allergic to cats? If the answer is yes then the relationship should end because she's a selfish self centered b*tch who only cares about herself and what makes her happy.

If she is unaware of his allergies he must tell her so she has the chance to prove she loves him by finding another home for those cats.

I love animals but if I knew the person I was planning a life with was severely allergic to them I would get rid of the animals no matter how attached to them I was.

Thats not fair at all. Some ppls animals are like their children to them. You might like animals but another ppls love is much stronger.

Just like those women with real children and get rid of them to be with a man who dont want kids. They pawn them off on others so they can "have a life"

Now if she got the cat AFTER they got together, its still hard but it makes a considerable difference.

Yes it is fair. I do understand that some people's p etc are l Ike children to them. In that case you have no damned business dating or living with someone who you k now is highly allergic. In that case you have to choose the animals or the relarionship. If you can't choose you're selfish and self centered and want the best of both worlds.

Not sure why you're confused. The opening post was a probable situation for the reader to picture themself in that situation and whether it's me, my son, your mom, preacher, or the fat skank geezer down the street is irrelevant! GOT IT?
