That's true Dix, I was referring to the new car market. But that's cause I buy new and pay more attention to such news (e.g., reliability rankings compiled by the consumer report). So I am sure you do know what you are talking about when it comes to used vehicles.

no doubt I believe that to be a major factor in my luck with cars.
but on your list of "reliable" ones - from new for sure, but as used - a lot of scions get abuse, a lot of subarus are not properly maintained, same with mazdas. sadly.
I heard a rumor we get company cars sometime this year. how absolutely divine that will be, I don't care what the car is, really.
although, I'm a bit nervous, I only owned one automatic, and did not drive it because I was uncomfortable with it, I've only ever driven manuals.
I was that way about truck automatics since the only automatic I drove was a GMC Top Kick beverage side bay truck with a 4 speed Allison automatic and that thing was a total slug.
Fast forward to this Volvo truck I have now with its 12 speed automated manual with no clutch pedal and it's a whole different ballgame. No wonder these things are so popular in Europe.
Most drivers hate it because they don't read up on how to drive it. Once you familiarize yourself on how to use the economy/performance shifting modes, it's a snap.

Volvo puts as much safety engineering in its commercial vehicles as its automobiles.

My car has a 6 gear clutchless (no pedal) shiftstick in addition to the automatic one. Works great.

It's got something like that. When in manual mode, you shift with an up shift/downshift button on the shift knob. In Drive, it automatically puts itself in economy mode and shifts at lower rpm but there's a button just behind the shift knob that triggers performance mode and allows the engine to stay in higher rpms to keep the engine in the power band. Really helpful when climbing a hill. In economy mode it usually shifts at 1300-1500 rpm and in performance mode that will jump up to 1850 rpm.
It's geared to cruise at 1150 rpm at 65 mph. The European truck industry has been cruising lower rpms for years with good results so Volvo is offering that school of thought here, fuel won't stay this cheap forever, lol.

It made me a fan within the first day of driving it. Especially in heavy traffic. 
I still find myself looking for the clutch pedal once in a while. Old habits die hard.

If they can't drive because of physical problems or what not I get it. However if they can't drive because they are a num nuts and lost their license to something bad well then naw.

Well I don't drive cause of a car accident I waa in. That made me nervous. So when i study the book, I don't pass.

I had a GF that din t have a car and I drove her around for 2 yrs and we got along good It sucked get home out of the truck and go get her and then take her home and get home and leave in the truck agsin. It was 90 miles round trip to go get her
