So looking through profiles. I see "retired"? They are my age or a little older? Some say "self employed"? You read their bio and it says they work when they want, just enough to keep the lights on? Ladies do you pass up guys when you see these words? What are other words that are red flags for you?

The "work when they want" issue wouldn't trouble me at all, because I did that for years, and it was a wonderful way to live. I'm working more now that my kids are all grown, but there were long periods where I worked 15-25 hours/week on my own schedule and focused on living life with my family--homeschooling, writing together, driving around the country, etc. If you have the ability to support yourself and anyone else you're responsible for without letting work become your life, why wouldn't you take that opportunity?

I know for some people, material things are a higher priority, but I probably wouldn't be compatible with them.

retired or self employed aren't necessarily red flags
everyone's situation
is different
but if they don't seem old enough, or no visible disability, I might ask

other words that would make me think are "I work when I want"

few can actually do that unless they're living off
Someone else...but then again
It depends on each persons
Circumstance

I don't think this is as rare anymore as many people (especially people our age) see to believe.

Writers, consultants, programmers, web designers, and even many professionals such as accountants and tax professionals can do all or most of their work at any hour they choose, from any location with electricity and an Internet connection.

Interesting--in most states, you have to be 16 with a few exceptions for specific industries. But, I see that in Florida, you're able to work up to three hours a day for a total of no more than 15 hours per week at 14 and 15.

I remember working at a discount store as a teenager and getting paid $3.35/hour. On Sundays, we got double time, and everyone wanted to work Sunday--it was a big deal to get those hours that paid "almost $7/hour!"

I worked for farmers during the summer from age 9-12, picking beans, tomatoes etc.. then corn detasseled for 2 summers...

then when I was 14, I was allowed to work 3 hours a day during the week and 5 hrs. a day on weekend days,.....but no more than 23 hours per week, at Arby's (worked the school lunch hour)
through a program at school where I also had to take a zero hour (basic economy type class)

The reason for this topic was because I was chatting with a guy. He said he was retired air force. He goes on to say he is disabled. He was a roofer and fell off a roof. He broke his foot. He walks just fine and works for cash under the table. Come to find out he was only in badic trsining for 2 yrs or less and was discharged for failure to comply. My feeling is if he can do mhard anual work for cash, why is he on disability? Another guy messaged me we chatted. He said he is not on disability. But chooses to work enough to keep his lights on. And his friends bring him left overs. Red flag red flag. I've dated guys on disability who were no more disabled than me. All working under the table. I asked the one guy not on disability what about retirement? His answer......"the state will take care of me".

To me this is a different issue--not about how much he works or how much money he's making but the fact that he's a scam artist.

I can't help my physical appearance (unibrow and squished together eyes) I've been single since 2007....

the difference between my ugliness and your ugliness is that my ugliness is only skin deep...
