Are you kidding me?

How many of you who were married kept that in your wedding vows? Which of you who have not yet been married intend to speak those words?

And how many of you actually paid attention to what they meant, and actually adhered to them, or would?

I made damn sure the preacher did not use those words at the ceremony.

I'm not a slave or a child, I "obey" no one!

I don't remember that word being a part of our wedding ceremony. But then, that was a long, long, long time ago. I'm lucky I remember it at all!

Because if you are married, and love each other.....then you love...honor....and obey.
But don't confuse "obey" with them owning you.
It just means that for two people to love each other in a marriage, they will both listen to each other's wishes.
And true love isn't commanding someone to treat you as a king....it's trating THE OTHER as royalty.
It's selfless.

Exactly. Except I'm not talking about simply saying pick up a gallon of milk on the way home type of stuff. It may be spoken as a statement, but it's really a request.

I'm talking stuff like "I forbid you to..." and "I'm your husband so you will do what I say..." and "No, you can't wear that " or "No you can't go (there)," etc. Or "You will have sex with me whenever I want it," etc.

Why would a woman give a rats a** what is in the vows...as soon as she says "I do", she gets half his money and the house. For that kind of deal, I will sing barry manilow songs naked while dancing the macarena.

A woman will submit as long as the guy agrees to do WHAT he is told, WHERE he is told, WHY he is told, HOW he is told, NO QUESTIONS ASKED! What I want to know is how come a woman obeys NO ONE even if it costs her her job, her relationships and her eternal damnation, but guys are supposed to meekly submit to everything you ORDER? Who'd want to marry a b*tch like that? Guess that explains the failure of your relationships, OP.

You can have only 1 chief and 1 injun and that isn't possible when the guy is a natural leader and the girl makes WW III out of every little issue. The relationship is doomed to fail from day 1. Have you ever dated a guy who seemed to suit you or did you think him a spineless wimp while MACHO BAD BOYZ are too aggressive etc? You seem to want a man who doesn't exist!

Don't hit on me as I'm certainly NOT interested!

Obey was in my first vows. If there is ever a second chance they will be just as the bible says. I like tradition. I love it that the women in my family are strong Christian women. Hard workers, good educations. And their marriages a partnership. When I see my nieces getting upset with their husbands we talk. If the husbands are valid I tell my nieces to knock it off. If the guys are out of line I tell them. The best advice given to me when I got married was never go to bed angry. It made for some late night "discussions". My ex probably gave in just to get some sleep. I guess my point is let me be a woman and I'll let you be THE MAN.

So to you, him being THE MAN and you being the woman means you have to OBEY him? What I don't get is this ambiguity as to what "being THE MAN" means within the context of this discussion.

So I'll ask you point blank. Did you OBEY your husband and, if so, why? Simply because the Bible says so? (Which, incidentally, was for the time it was written and hasn't applied for many years .)

Do you feel incapable of making logical decisions? Do you think that because he is THE MAN that he is superior to you and more capable than you are?

Also, "let me be the woman." What does that mean, supplication yourself unto THE MAN'S authority?

Did you OBEY what he told you to do?

Obeying THE MAN doesn't make you a strong Christian woman, it makes you a weak submissive intimidated woman.
