I have to file my taxes still. I hate that. It makes me wonder...."where the hell is all this money I'm paying taxes on?". Why can't I just pay taxes on Net income not GROSS? That number can't be right.

My belief in humanity. My naiveté. The belief that people are inherently good. Meh...too early in the day for such morbidity.

I miss playing with friends. Running around through the woods. Being placated by my imagination and their company. The lack of responsibility. The good that was in me and that I saw in others.

I miss the old backyard. Dad built a swing set right next to an apple tree, and all the neighbor kids would come and play.
It was also connected to a big churchyard where we could play baseball, soccer, whatever.
To this day, when I smell apple blossoms, I go right back there.

Sometimes working overtime is counter productive. Higher tax bracket. As far as home repairs go, the less money, the more creative you are. The plain fixtures work as well as the fancy expensive fictures.. May look better. I learned that frugal is cool.

I like being a grownup I can do and not do whatever I want. I like the responsibility and freedom. Making and spending my own money and dropping my sons off with my mom so she doesn't lose her motherly touch
She rolls her eyes everytime I tell her.

I'm re-modeling my bathroom. Tore down all four walls and the ceiling. Clear out the debris.

Brought sheetrock and put-up all 4 walls again and the ceiling.

Taking a 3 day break already. I will get started back on Saturday. Put up the tiles, install the new sink and commode and do the floor and painting sometimes next week.

T.V. make that shit look easy. It's real labor work, though.

.....I don't feel young anymore either.

What I really miss is what Esme touched on. I miss not having all the options still in front of me.

When I was in shape (not of the round variety)and had long and somewhat curly and/or jelled hair. I could attract women much easier back than and it was easier to talk them into catering to my fetishes.

Don't even bother trying to remodel a room with no foundation.

It makes no sense. Houses like that, you would have to tear it all down. Put in a foundation and then re-built the house back up.

I know that's out of the realm but that's the only way to have all the rooms on a stable foundation.

me too..I worked a 40+ hour week since I just turned 15

what I don't miss? being broke.

now if you want to go into grade school/junior high, I miss that the only thing I had to worry about was "be home before the street lights came on"

but then it's my turn to be the adult and it came early, mom's disability and dad was in a motorcycle accident ..but it's all good we all take care of each other in various stages of life.

I actually just started doing remodeling about 2 years back after watching countless hours of YouTube videos and researching technical pointers to know.

I'm most on small-scale rooms like a bathroom and holes in the wall.

I need to learn how to fix an A.C. unit....mines is in the attic. And I need a new Evaporator coil.

I search the cost of it and it had my eyes popped out how most charge anywhere from $1300 to $2500.

I'm doing my best to learn how to remove freon (R22) by the pound.

Not enough information on the 'net how to do it. Just more private business that does the work and charge all that money.

Right now, AC works fine but there a leak, and I have to keep draining out of pan because the coil is shot.

I will keep learning how to rebuild home-related stuff. Quite interesting for Men getting of age to learn that stuff.

Make some money on the side, too.

Being an adult does not mean you have to do the normal daily grind. Although most do. I chose not to ever loose my sense adventure or freedom. I do everything I can go where I can. One chooses the way they want to live if you choose to be a normal adult then you will be that. I choose to walk a different path than most and has gave me a lifestyle I enjoy and a job that allows me to do all these things.

R22 is being fased out you need to upgrade to 410A. I just spent a fortune on a new AC last year. I had to have the coils changed in the furnace. Expensive.

Being a grownup is LOTS of fun - I have more fun in a year of being an adult than I did in all my childhood combined.

I miss NOTHING about my childhood, there was nothing care-free about being a kid, and I wouldn't want to live through being a kid again for ANYTHING.

Childhood at home ranged from vaguely amusing mysteries to disturbing and chilling enigmas.

Childhood at school was an almost complete surreal nightmare of noise and chaos without justification or reason.

If I were offered a chance to live my life over again, I might reluctantly agree only on the condition that I could start from about age 22... not because that was a particularly bright time of life, but because life steadily got better year by year from there.

If I had to pick something to miss about my younger days, I guess I would miss not knowing this:

What young carefree days. Between sports and a part time job in high school I didn't have that.

While in college worked two part time jobs.

Then worked four jobs.

Eventually three.

Now two.

While owning a house and doing repairs and owning cars and doing maintenance.

Tis life. I choose to swim not sink and hope to be floated by the government.

Yes, yes. I heard. I haven't done anything like that before and many are telling me that "you don't want to mess with that stuff if you don't know what you're doing and looking at."

Harmful midst (condesation..??) can be lethal if I do something wrong and that I have to wear face mask and shoe wraps too when messing with a unit like that.

I know how to remove the plate and clean around it and unclog the drainage with a wire but I'm not exactly sure what are the safety concerns I need to be aware of.

What do I look for, smell, see etc. That, I don't know. That's why they charge so much for a trained technician to do it.

I certainly don't want to pay no where near $1,300 to $2,500.

When you were a kid you wanted to be grown up so you could make your own rules and do everything your way, eat dessert first etc. Wouldn't want to be a kid again unless I could know then what I know now.

You don't get it. You were supposed to be in awe of my angst and self-pity. Theorize as to it's roots and cry out to God "what has become of this tortured young man?".

Stating the obvious, of course. Yes, I grew up on illinois. I loved looking for fossils. I loved collection rocks and skipping stones at the lake. I loved staying out past dusk. I loved the games like "kick the can". That was everything to me back then. Running around the neighborhood with the other kids was an adventure. I couldn't wait to be an adult. I had a good childhood.

Young carefree days, when?? I have always made my own money ever since I was 10 years old. I had my paper route, snow shoveling in the winter, lawn mowing in the summer, and watching my siblings while mom was at work. No time to be carefree.

^^same here, mowed lawns (I didn't like babysitting) the first time I got a "break" was when I went to college. A whole semester of not working (I'd saved) and partying

I went hog wild...but back to reality a semester later..you eat you work and pay your way.

but somewhere around middle age I found a happy medium of it..that and reduced my debt..we all went nuts in the 90s with payments and credit cards...the best solution for debt problems? If you can't afford it..DO NOT buy it. (simple huh?)

Right. Thus my point of another context. Now there's other responsibilities you can't escape.

You just get a short break if any. gone are the long summer days of fun with friends and nothing else day in and out.

Now go play is a 10 minute quickie escape. Hopefully it's enjoyable and good

All in all I've enjoyed my life, both in youth and as an adult.

Being I grew up on a dairy farm I've always had to work as long as I can remember but we got plenty of free time to goof off too.

I suppose it was my early twenties that I had the most freedom, I was done with school but didn't yet own property and I was single. What I miss about those years is being able to just take off and go where I wanted to and take as long as I wished doing it. A day, a week, a month, whatever.

On one such trip at age 20 I went on tour of the U.S. and hung out in CA for six months. It would not be very practical for me to do that now.

Quote from zane097:
My belief in humanity. My naiveté. The belief that people are inherently good. Meh...too early in the day for such morbidity.

I miss playing with friends. Running around through the woods. Being placated by my imagination and their company. The lack of responsibility. The good that was in me and that I saw in others.

Me too...exactly how I feel
