Speaking of cats, is your's a male dixie?
I was reading something about cats and their coloring and their sex recently and I read that yellow cats are usually male. Which made sense to me since almost all of the yellow cats I've had were male. However, I did have a female and she had kittens on a couple of occasians.
Seeing you with your cat reminds me of the female yellow cat I had. My brother's girlfriend was holding it and she had hair much like yours only more wild and it looked like the cat came out of her hair. The color matched very well.
I have a bunch of calico cats now and from what I read they are almost always female and usually sterile. It seems I have at least two that are not sterile.

I've got two female calicos. Do not know if they were sterile I had them fixed anyways.
I can recall three orange/yellow females we had on the farm when I was a kid growing up.
