I think if a person really needs them, they should use them rather than suffer. Not everyone needs them indefinitely. It may also depend on WHICH medications.

Well, I am both very sad and anxious and a cousin of mine told me they take the edge off. The worst feeling is hopelessness. And that can lead to worse things. Like suicide.

What about cannabis oil?

I don't honestly know, I'm not a doctor.

But it does seem like pharmaceuticals is quite the money making racket these days. Have you tried anything else to relieve your anxiety, or just jumped straight to pills being the possible miracle cure? I'm not being facetious, but there might be other options.

I am sorry you feel hopeless sometimes people feel down, but it's a constant feeling you should speak with a doctor. I don't think you should use medicine that isn't prescribed could make things worse. Also consider talk therapy and speaking about feelings really does help. I wish you the best!

Some antidepresants are wonder drugs managed by a doctor that knows your problems

i have seen them save lives. Antidepresants take at least 21 days to have maximum effect.

They don't work over night. Yes, I have worked in medical field

pretty much what he says!

dr's will prescribe anti depressants.
but, that really isn't their expertise.

those meds are sometimes inconjuction with other's
BUT IN YOUR CASE. med dr got no business prescribing them to you as a prolonged med.
maybe a short term NON REFILLIABLE dosage along with a referral to a shrink type dr

but the way your talking and describing yourself... i think you'd be better off getting rid of some of your worries then trying to dope yaself along.

Yes,and the answer to your last question varies from yes to no not really. Personally I think it's healthier for you to accept and work on resolving the issues that make you anxious and depressed instead of blocking most of those emotions out, which is what anti depressants seem to do.However,if these emotions are at the point of being debilitating than you may need low doses of it OR just therapy alone may help. Also I would keep as BUSY as possible.

Another thing you should do automatically do is stop and check your caffeine intake your water intake and your food intake... And are you sleeping well?

These four things can f**k me over after if they get out of whack and i barely notice it until months later...

That alone should be enough to seek help with the depression. Don't delay.

You are taking the first step...accepting you need help.
Second.
Go to a psychiatrist they are the ones who prescribe medicine.

Or you can look for counseling first so you can avoid to mess up your brain.
Once you take those pills you have to take them every day.

When i lived w my ex i learned that he needed professional help. But never heard or care for what i said.
Finally he's been treated and he has changed a lot.

Once he gave me Prosac to be more patient to my child. My mind was adjusting to it the two first days..
I was so relaxed, happy that nothing affected me.
But when i decided to quit.them i got very obnoxious.
So i practice or do stuff that relax me instead taking pills.

Anti-depressants are useless, stupid, habit forming, and a crutch for idiots. I never get depressed. If you do get depressed, it is your own fault. It is not a brain chemical imbalance. It is an attitude problem. Change your attitudes, and the depression will vanish. You can believe the doctors, and pharmacists, who tell you that it is not your fault, and that it is a chemical imbalance....when they want to sell you drugs...or you can believe me who gets no money, etc, from you at any time ,either way. Figure out which is most trustworthy, and go with it.

How come is their fault?
There is a chemical imbalance that they can't fight it by themselves.

Have you lived with somebody with those symptoms? It's a living nightmare. They're not happy with anything it doesn't matter how hard you try to reframe their mindset.
Changing paradigms.
Planning nice things, they don't appreciate s**t. They blame everything on you or make excuses on everything. Don't participate on nothing exciting, they always see the sky gray! When is blue and beautiful!

I think people whop were never prepared for the hard harsh realities of life tend to use them as their "coping" mechanism the same way a drunk or alcoholic uses their drug of choice to "get away from reality"

which just leads to more depression

I'd advise anyone who's depressed to seek a help group rather than pills.......it doesn't even have to be a "doctor oriented help group..........it could simply be a hobby shared by others who AREN'T depressed

depressed people sitting in groups with other depressed people isn't going to help a depressed people

just saying

.
.
ps..........no they will NOT help.....I have two aunts who have been on anti-depressants and seeing a therapist for over 40 years....they haven't changed a bit........just got more dependent of drugs and got more depressed

here's a little wisdom for ya
.

If you want to help an alcoholic do you take them to a bar to discuss their issues?

therapists have NO incentive to "cure" a person?

if they fix you/the person/whoever they get no steady flow of your money, therapists rely on you to be DEPENDENT on them/their services

Go out meet people, pick up a hobby, help others by volunteering in some way...etc etc to FIX YOURSELF

I don't think much of them. doctors like to prescribe them to patients like they work for everyone with anxiety or depression. Im not saying it doesn't help some patients but they aren't for everyone.

we're the last people to be asking that.

If you are feeling anxious, depressed, miserable, angry, bitter, unloved, unlovable, and out of control, dating is NOT going to help.

Set dating aside for a while until you feel strong enough to handle all the challenges, disappointments, and disasters that trying (and sometimes failing, and sometimes even succeeding) to date brings.

See a proper, licensed doctor, and get a second opinion from a proper, licensed doctor - acting on the opinions of random strangers on the Internet based on your self-diagnosis is probably not the wisest course of action.

Getting therapy to find out the underlying reason you're depressed with a professional is the first step one should take...

During my time of depression, therapy was a great aid and I realized I was living a pattern in my life that came to a stand still and wasn't able to cope...I chose no medication only because I don't like taking them...but one on one therApy helped...

Good luck op

It helped after my divorce. And after my Grandpa died. I was early twenties and started having panic attacks. It took anxiety meds therapy, relaxtion therapy and the education that in most people there is a chemical imbalance of serotonin. The chemical that kicks in when you are in danger. With the imbalance it kicks in for no reason. Its called fight or flight. You cant just take meds alone. You have to fight the depression. See a psychiatrist and therapist and learn coping lessons. It will help you.

glad it helped some of you, but I'm still sticking with my answer.....based upon what I've saw in my life.....
after my dad had brain surgery years of not working set in and he was Beyond depressed he saw nothing good in anything and even developed little stupid ocd type behaviors.....

tough love..making him go out and find a part time job, and encouraging him to ride a bike, go visit people/family etc..... FIXED him...within a year or so.......

now he's back to normal no ocd, no paranoia, he sees the positive in things now, he's optimistic now, etc etc.......

it took me allowing him to be homeless for a couple short stints........to make him "fend for himself" to build back up his confidence in his own abilities

after 9 years of feeling sorry for him and trying to get him to changed, didn't work

@OP The key to success is WANTING to be well. You have to get professional help. I cant take depression meds they make me sick. Anxiety meds I'll take when going thru bad times but the breathing & relaxation technics help the most. And talking to a therapist is key. You have to stop the negative self talk. Replace it with a positive statement. Good luck.

^^^^yes..."me"...but like I said earlier...I didn't take medication...just learned techniques/coping skills and utilize what I was taught and stay active

exactly......keeping your mind busy FIXES the problem (whether you're depressed because of having no date/boy/girl friend, you lost your job, you've fallen to an illness etc etc....the solution is always the same

when one sits around and contemplates this and that all day long and doesn't really do anything........all they do is think and think and worry and worry.. to the point they start over-thinking and becoming irrational..and picking up ocd type of behaviors....

your brain want to be busy, it wants your to be active.........failing to make it think and stay busy takes away from it's healthiness

glad it helped some of you, but I'm still sticking with my answer.....based upon what I've saw in my life.....
after my dad had brain surgery years of not working set in and he was Beyond depressed he saw nothing good in anything and even developed little stupid ocd type behaviors.....

tough love..making him go out and find a part time job, and encouraging him to ride a bike, go visit people/family etc..... FIXED him...within a year or so.......

now he's back to normal no ocd, no paranoia, he sees the positive in things now, he's optimistic now, etc etc.......

it took me allowing him to be homeless for a couple short stints........to make him "fend for himself" to build back up his confidence in his own abilities

after 9 years of feeling sorry for him and trying to get him to changed, didn't work
Thats very true your dad started working which changed the thoughts in his head. He had to think about work. Idle hands and idle minds are the devils playground.

EXACTLY

that's why I'm against parents punishing their kids by making them "go to their room for hours etc."

Before you get on meds, I would suggest regular cardiovascular exercise. It can really make you feel a lot better.

This, and healthy eating helps.

I disagree with that...just because your mind is busy doesnt make the problem go away...it has to be dealt with or it's going anywhere...
