I had what the doctor referred to as a mini stroke last month. I had come home from work late that evening and when I sat down on my bed, my left ear suddenly started ringing (almost deafening). Then I felt very dizzy, and I thought WOW this is going to be a bad one, so I laid back and from that point I lost all strength to move. By the time it subsided and I made it to the bathroom to put cold water on my face, I noticed that my face looked like ash. All the tests came back negative but my doctor still put me on Plavix. I was under a lot of stress around that time.

I had a stroke almost 8 years ago, and I still feel like I'm recovering. It changed me profoundly and it took almost that long to admit that I was not the same person. But through lots of therapy I can accept myself as I am, and I even like the new me. I tell myself that having the stroke was the worst thing that ever happened to me, but also the best thing that ever happened to me. I am so glad I don't have to be "Superwoman" any more and can just be myself, and just take things slow and easy. Like today, I made a list of all the errands I had to run and thought I had everything in my purse -- but I didn't and had to drive all the way home to retrieve info. "Oh well". I didn't get angry with myself, I just accepted that I am not as detail oriented as I used to be. I find that if I stay calm and move slowly, keep a notebook of things I need to remember and refer to it, I usually do pretty well. Cannot be overwhelmed, rushed or pushed into stuff -- I just take things slow and easy, and one day at a time. If I manage to do 5 things on my TO DO LIST, I consider myself as having a pretty good day.

Yep, had a stroke in 97, one month before my 50th birthday, been 11 yrs now, still feel weak and haven't regained my fine motor control in my left hand. Doctors said the stroke was a result of smoking for 33yrs. Plus working all hours of the day and night. I tell you what, when you lose your health, you will never recover from it.

My first stroke was in 05. It severly effected my left side. My mind is semi recovering but there are gaps in memory, perhaps I am lucky. I know I have came a long way and God willing the mini-strokes will some day subside. My last hospital stay was 3 weeks ago. This time they found a B12 defeciency and are concentrating on it now. You would really be surprised at the neurological problems it causes. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I haven't had one, but a guy who interviewed me earlier this week suggested this weird notion by asking me if I had a stroke (then pointing out why he thought I had a stroke). It's also one of the reasons I chose not to work for him, as I reflected on everything the past few days. It's one thing if people had a stroke. But, stroke or no stroke, that's something interviewers should *not* be doing or pointing out during an interview, in my opinion. He's lucky I didn't sue him and his company. I'm not even gonna mention anything else that could have been construed as illegal.

I had a stroke in 99 when I was 44. It left me partially blind and unable to drive. I also dont have the energy level I used to. Im lucky that is all that happened to me. It started as a migrane headache.

I had six strokes. They were all pretty bad. My last one was three years ago I had a bleeder and they eventually operated to believe it or not cure me. It's funny now that I can say that but ya I am cured. I had moya-moya which is a syndrome that oriental women get. I'm neither oriental nor a woman so just goes to show you to keep an open MIND. Thank God for Mass General.

99 I did eventually regain the strength in my left arm, hand and leg. They were never completely paralyzed but extremely weak. I couldn't hold anything in my left hand. I returned to work a year later.
I was under extreme stress at home and working 2 jobs and still trying to be Superwoman. My superwoman days are over. I take it slow and easy and I LISTEN to my body now. No I am not a hypochodriac but your body will let you know when its time to go to the doctor.
