 hey girly....i mostly work with acrylics...love them...i dont remember ever NOT drawing....been doing it since i can remember....and i go thru spells where i cant stand a moment of not drawing to going a couple of months of not doing it at all....and painting sometimes is my way to relax when im wound too tight...the cool thing is my boy inherited it and loves to draw too....and very good too lil twirp sells his drawings to his friends at school

I have always been artistic as far back as a child. At a time in my life I needed self help expressing my emotions, a friend had recommended I take a art class. I started sculpting with clay and soon discovered what expressive arts was. I truly begin to feel my creativity awakening to a higher self. I am more open now to that spiritual engery. A sense of a inner peace, love as being nurtured by the universe. I have gained access to my deepest feelings and seen it come out in my art as it has healed me from within. I have also noticed how my art has changed as I have passed through troubled times to healing times.

Now I enjoy trying different mediums, always looking for something new to try.


I would like to see more of this being done with Psychotherapists. It would be a great benefit.

 I was a sign painter for over 30 years--lettered anything for the customers. It is now all vinyl--computer cut tape---so I have reduced it all to illustrating for a select clientelle. I sell work to the post office and some publications. My favorite artist is Norman Rockwell--studied his style for a long time.

 I've always been drawing and painting....since I could hold a pencil. Took a black crayon (at 2) and redecorated the bathroom wallpaper.Trust me,it needed it! I am told I drew 1,000 spiders crawling on the wall.

I work mainly with watercolors and oils. Sometimes acrylics. Sometimes with charcoal and pastels. It depends. I also sculpt with red clay.

My style...hmmm...a bit surreal...abstact...although I have also done many portraits. My main focus is on people. In nearly everything I've created, people are incorperated. So, I'm not sure I can really define my style.

When my more-computer savvy daughter returns home to the States in 9 days...I've have her download my artwork. Then you can decide for yourselves.

P.S.---This is my first post in this Group. So glad I found you all!

 I've been drawing ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil. Like food air and sleep,
art is essential to me.My primary interest is in doing portraits; I work in graphite,
inks, acrylics and oils. John Singer Sargent, Salvidor Dali, Norman Rockwell, and Leonardo
are some of my favorite influences.

 So nice to find this group.. found it through a friend's page. My name is Maria, I am on the west coast, soon to be a WA resident (state of). I'm also primarily a portrait artist. I work with charcoal. I've been sketching people for as long as I can remember. I decided a couple of years ago to take up painting, and am pretty happy with that. I haven't much time or space for it right now, but will when I retire in several months. Very nice to read all of your comments.

 So very, very nice to know I'm not just whistling Dixie to myself......LOL So nice to know there are more artists out there. Why not exchange art ideas with one another? Do you think we can? I've been on the fence so long after my divorce and the breast cancer, that I feel quite alone here........BUT I've met some wonderful people at DH, some that I know will be friends and some......  Hi -- Glad I spotted this group.

Wonder if it's ok to tell each other our urls, so we can view each other's work?

Is there a moderator who can answer this?

Looks like I'm going to be teaching 6 different art workshops at a local college, here in AZ.

I also created something called Art Concerts! (I paint a "pose" of dancers, who are dancing on stage, while musicians play music for them!)

Mediums:
Watercolor, acrylic, air brush, pencil, ink - anything water-based, really.

Someone had a question about "getting the mojo back".
I'd say, "Get into a class of your choosing, as soon as possible!"
Meet some fellow artists who are working. You'll "get it" by osmosis!

 I'm the one who said "how do you get your mojo back..."

I taught for seven plus years at the Malley Senior Center (which does NOT have a bunch of doddering ejits there, but accomplished artists that are just older artists.....lol). I've taught art classes for over 25 years and miss doing that, but live with the cows now with no prospects of getting together with artists except for the farm animals. I DO plan on getting my camera out and taking zounds of pics of their bodies. I don't have a web site and don't even know how to accomplish that since I have a brain injury that damaged the left side of the brain....but not the RIGHT!!!! YEAHHHHHH....just been through a lot in the past year (brain injury was in 1995 before I was showing in five galleries), diagnosed within six months of eachother for Celiac Sprue Disease and Breast Cancer, then a divorce after 13 years of marriage......then I sold my house in CO and moved out to TN where I bought a house on two acres and love the fact that maybe, just maybe a car will drive by......there are maybe 10 during the work week and much less during the weekend... SO - this is basically why my mojo has gone into temporary hiding. So, the question once again, with the above knowledge of being cut off from everything but cows and other animals is .....how does one get their mojo back when being cut off from everything? It's not like I can go into town and find something.....it isn't there.........it's just me and me.......

Help anyone? That's why I began this thread....

Oh, yeah, by the by....did you check my profile's pics and see some of the many things I've done?????

 Hi-I've been an artist since I can remember, etc. I've worked with colored pencils for the last 30 yrs or so, although I dabble in other mediums too. It's good to know there are a lot of talented artists out there ...I had no idea how many.As for getting your mojo back, I've found that if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere surrounded by cows...draw cows. Chances are, after 20 hours painting a cow,you'll notice a tree in the background and you'll get a spark of an idea, and so on and so on. Music works for me usually.Don't get too discouraged, it's part of the process I guess....

 Thanks artistjoe......yeah...cows, cows and more cows....LOL I saw a little one just jumping around while running...it was SOoooooo cool! And there are so many different colored ones...then the horses are so beautiful. I'll just have to walk down the road to take some pics, or if I'm feeling giddy - I'll drive. oooo what a concept!

I work in colored pencils also. Since I have a background in advertising design and illustration/fine arts I use colored pencils for the tight drawings. I like to work with watercolors, then tighten certain thick/thin lines with colored pencils and then give the painting movement by sweeping some pastels over it. That's when something that has motion becomes E-motion........have a good day all of you! Hope we can keep in touch.....
