This is my thing that i have battled with for a very long time, is lies! Whether or not to accept a lie. Honesty is all i need and i put it out there, with a clear definition of my understanding of honesty. Just as well as how lies affect me. My definition of honesty: (Say what you mean and mean what you say! Because your word is what will bond us or break us!) Am i wrong to want nothing but the truth at all times? Let me know!

Depends on the lie...If it's the "Do these jeans make me look fat?" variety, I'm all for lying! Just kidding. Nope, lying's a dealbreaker. No way would I stay with someone who I knew was lying to me.

I don't think you are worng for wanting 100% honesty!! Even if the 'truth hurts' isn't it better to put it out there & deal with it then continue on like some hapless fool?

Once someone lies to you, they become someone who will lie to you. Forgiving them doesn't change that sad fact.

Alright, I am pulling this reply right out of the protestant box I was raised in. When someone says they are sorry it is only geniune if they attempt to change. I don't forgive someone who apologizes and does not attempt to change. If you apologize and keep repeating the effort, your apology is worthless. So, if someone continually lies, and expects forgiveness, it wouldn't happen. Now, if someone were a habitual liar and was attempting to change, then I have some forgiveness to work with. Does that help?

The main reason for lying is fear of what the truth may bring. You wanna salvage a relationship with someone dishonest, find out why they fear the truth.

You make a good point bro. I don't associate with people who cannot say what they mean and mean what they say. I talk about this same thing. Yes, one's word is their bond especially in the beginning. A lot of people talk a good game, yada, yada, yada, but many times, it's all talk - no backing up, yet plenty of rationalizations and excuses.
I don't surround myself with such because ultimately, who am I really fooling if I do?

Yes..I forgive all the time..no sense in carrying anger with me..I think that is what
triggered my cancer. But...and that is a big BUT..just because I forgive doesn't
mean I am stupid to continue the relationship. I say.."I forgive you for your lying
to me..but I respect and love myself far too much to continue a relationship with you..
God Bless you in your future relationships"..then I walk away. Aww..that feels so
good not to carry any anger and to be free!

NO not unless your going to forgive and forget them.... people who lie about little things will lie about BIG things..they are also more prone to cheat ..it is a moral issue and if they lack in it, what do they have to offer you..I would rather hear the truth and forgive..I mean if you cant tell them dont do it..TRUST and RESPECT are two of the biggest bonds in a relationship and if you cant trust their words you have nothing ..no matter how bad the situation ..how awful the truth is the key to forgiving is truly being sorry and honest ..how can you forgive someone who isnt even honest with theirselves..a double HELL NO..How can you trust them???

Forgiving is not something you do for the other person, it is something you do for yourself so you can heal.
The better question is would you continue to place your trust in someone who lied to you? Of course not. If this is a partner/lover of yours, would you stay with them? That depends on how much YOU want to stay with them, knowing how they are.

I tried the forgiving thing several times, got burned each time. Not to mention the trust i had in her was and remains to be totally destroyed and therefore so was our relationship. As i am and always will be a very forgiving person, I draw the line at lies.

I am honest to a fault, so I have no time for liars. I left my marriage because of it and have found peace because I live a truthful life. To live a life full of lies is emotionally tiring. The liar is only, in the end lying to his/herself.

They may mature with time....why would an intelligent person care ?
