Yes you are meeting the wrong one's. If they are near your age and live with mom and dad, be afraid, be very afraid.

When I see self employed I think they are a business owner. Becareful about being judgemental, you might miss out on something wonderful.

When I graduated high school, my dad gave me three options 1)four year university away from home 2) military away from home or 3) kick your butt to the curb and take whatever dead end job you like. I am appalled to see how many young people now are living with their parents after college to they can continue to be mothered instead of changing priorities and paying one's own way no matter what it takes even if that would mean having a job you hate and having to live with roommates. Your parents did their job. It is time to do yours.

I agree. I work 2 jobs to take care of my home and take pride in that. I had to leave finishing my masters degree because of the economy being the way it is. A job is a job. I would date a guy who worked at Taco bell if he had pride in knowing he was working and he was taking care of his family any way he had to.

arreis is correct. Maybe Dustin should add entrepreneur or small business owner to the list of options for employment. But being near 40 yo and still living at home would be a problem for me unless they are their parents live-in care giver.

I have a Master's Degree. Once I got through the overqualified/lack of experience dilemna post grad school and got my career started, I have been lucky in that I have endured layoffs and always land yet better on my feet in the long run. 90% of what I know is from the school of hard knocks. I never had kids, so I imagine motherhood is like its own full time job on top of whatever pays the bills. Those are the hardest knocks of all.

I notice that there are many more that list self employed and I think some of them actually just count anything as work when really it is not a job at all. I talked to one guy one time you said he was in the computer field and then I found out he just helped his friends or family if their computer had problems. I think some of them may have business if they list self employed but not all.

Yes, I have a job and have had one most of my life.

Who is Dustin? I understand, however most of the adds I read say self employed. Why? I'm not being mean. I understand the economy right know. As a woman I don't want to take care of someone by working 3 jobs and just waiting around for them to catch on.

Some of them may actually be business owners as one stated and some not. I don't put much stock into what that says as it will eventually come out as to what they do for a living.

It could also possibly just be something they do to deter the gold diggers. I hate to say it but there are men and women that are only out for the type of people that make a lot of money so they can be taken care of. Saying you are self employed will do one of two things. It will peak someone's interest in what they do or the initiative and drive that they have. Or the other possibility is it will make the wrong ones stay away. I see it like this if money is a major factor in what you are looking for then what they put in that title will alter the direction you take. If it is not a priority then it won't. In my opinion I really don't care what they do for a living as long as it is legal and it allows them to take care of themselves or their household.
