Sorry, I think the last 2 posters are overly optimistic and will give a sense of false hope to the OP. The woman in question has made it clear by saying she doesn't want to "ruin the friendship". If she had a romantic interest should would NOT have been concerned about jeopardizing the friendship.

You have been friends for too long that she can't see you as anything else.
i dont know man i had the same thing happen too me and 2 years later the girl got married then divorced called me up, we had sex we talked but it didnt work out...so all those years of me wanting her and thinking i loved her where false i guess

I have Read all the responses and almost everyone of you make good points. Since our discussion I have left her alone. She calls me when she needs someone to talk to and that is all there is. It just is frustrating when someone admits those feelings as well but refuses to act on them. That is all my point was to my post. I told her how I felt and she scknowledged the same but won't act on those feelings. She knows that I am here for her if she needs a freind. I will not wait for her as I may miss other opportunities.
