I'm so sorry hun! I wish I knew why the fakes do it too. There really are a lot of genuinely nice men here. Don't judge all of them by one ass. He'll get what he deserves. I can top that! I met one once who not only had his wedding ring on but was stupid enough to answer his cell.... it was his wife! Keep a sense of humor or you'll go crazy. There are good ones out there, but the majority of them are in solid relationships. If you stop trying, you won't ever find the good ones. That said, let's go on a peckerhead hunt!

DAG - ok, I'm laughing a little.
Yeah, I met a guy off of Match who was way older looking than his picture. But I talked to him on the phone a couple times so I knew no matter what he looked like, he would be a nice person and he was. Just not someone I was attracted to in any way whatsoever.
But, we'd already established on the phone that he was going to pay for the lunch so it was no biggie for me. He did push me at the end of the date to tell him whether I wanted to see him again - I didn't really like that part (because I didn't want to tell him the truth!) so I told him I'd email him later that afternoon and to let me think about it for a second or two. I think he knew with that answer there was no way (well, he should have at least if he had any sense) but I still emailed him and said "thanks for lunch and enjoyed meeting you but I don't feel any sparks. Much luck to you".
I'm not trying to blame you in ANY way for this creepo's behavior but just maybe a word to the wise to dig a little deeper before you meet face to face again (?)
And, in truth, you didn't HAVE to pay for his coffee, right? You could have said "wow, bummer. No money. That sucks. Well, gotta run..." and off you go...
