I see a lot of threads that are about how somebody gotten hurt in past relationships and how it made them weary and sometimes evan distrusting.
Often those hurts are projected into a new or potential new relationship and become a handicap from the very start.
My thought is would it not be better to leave the past just that, the past, learn from the mistakes and start fresh?
A great person send me a message not long ago that said the following;
Love is giving someone the power to break your heart, but trusting them not to!
Isen't it better to start new and leave by-gones be by-gones then to bring the old negative into a new relationship?

OP, sometimes its easier said than done.
I was married 25 years, it took me 2 years before I was ready to freely give and allow someone close enough to have a chance to break my heart.
Sometimes we have to heal a bit first before we can be ready to give again.

Nothing hurts more than having your heart broken by someone you completely adore.
It takes time to heal and sometimes we never do heal on the inside.
Sometimes we can never find that love again.
We never love the same every love is different.
What a quote "Giving someone the power to break your heart, but trusting them not to". A very powerful quote for sure.

We all have BAGGAGE. Heartbreak, stalkers, psychos, kids, lunatics,ex spouses, peeping toms... You get the point.
1. You cannot start a new relationship until you heal yourself by letting go of whatever it is you're hanging on to.
2. If you cannot let go....don't start anything with anybody else. Thats not fair. It will be doomed to fail. Its a domino effect.
Another good quote that I love is "Forgiveness is me giving up the right to hurt you for hurting me."

Sometimes, we don't realize how hurt we really are from our past until we try to move into the next relationship. And the ceiling caves in on us.
It would be great to leave all past pains in the past. I don't know if that is possible, tho.

Your past is your past. If you do not leave it there, you will be bringing this past drama into your current situation.

I consider myself definitely healed and ready to move on. I have learned some hard lessons on the road of life...the worst part is most of that was because of my own bad choices. You have to take time to heal and accept your part of responsibility.

I think trusting is a little like having faith, you may not believe wholeheartedly that you will be hurt again, but you love anyway.
