Why all the deception? Lies? cheating? No more phone calls? No explanations. Have we lost our ability to communicate effectively with our significant others in longer term relationships and also to honor and trust in their emotionally stability as a person? If you know something is over and trust me...Most do. Why not just tell the other person that and move on in a decent respectful manner. I guess that would take something called integrity or class and you might actually have to care about people enough to do it though.

Good question....I guess cuz they don't want to hear the fall-out, the feed-back, or possibly they just don't want to face the fact that they failed.

I would have to say that most people beleive that if you open communication when breaking up it only leads to confrontation or reconcillation. If you are the one doing the breakingup you don't want to deal with either. Yes it is pathetic.

I am in the same situation. I have been with this person for eight years. I want to end the relationship, but it is hard. I feel like I failed. The romance is gone, and I feel like we are strangers. How do I tell this person I am leaving.

Just my experience, but when I felt that way in my marriage I told my exhusband that I was not happy and that we needed to try to fix it. After a year of not fixing it I sat him down and told him that I thought it best that he move out and that we get divorced. It was hard and there were a lot of tears on both sides, but because we never lost communication with one another we are still great friends and are able to parent our daughter together. Not every break up has to have a fall out. There is such a thing as talking and figuring things out together. When you hide and don't talk is when there is a fall out. JMO

Probably because the seriousness of the emotions involved. Some have invested their life, some not so much, but a lot of vulnerability is at stake. Again there are a lot of different personalitiy types, some just can't deal w/it. You think?

I'm a trained Buddhist guidance consoler and have written a book called "How to Raise Your Life Condition" which will answer your dilemma. I can e-mail it to you, but be careful the first half will answer your questions but the second hale takes you direct to hell! This is done so you can experience, eliminate and replace every thing you'll feel and replace them with love and joy - if you have the heart and stomach for it.
