If you love that person you sure would. You wouldn't even think about cheating. I wouldnt care if he went overseas to fight or he had to leave for another reason. As long as he wasn't cheating himself. You love them you wait for them. You know that it could happen when he went in or was in and you should have thought of it then.

I had been going with a wonderful girl in 1969 that was going to be there when I got back. We wrote many times, but as time went on the letters slowed to a stop. This old Marine trained Navy Corpman was damn near killed in 1970 and spent 7 months in Portsmouth Naval Hospital. When I went home, I found out she was with another man and had married him. I took off hitchiking and traveled all over the US to heal the wounds for a long time, and finally went back to my old stomping grounds. I never saw her again until last year, 36 years later, when I was visiting my Mom in Michigan. After all these years, she came up to me with her husband next to her and put her arms around me and told me she was sorry she left but could not handle the war and was just to young to handle the commitment. I told her she had nothing to be sorry for because my life is and was exactlly as it was supposed to be. I still email her and we are email buddies. Life is good. By the way, you can always tell a Marine, but ya can't tell em much, Semper Fi Do or Die.aaahhhmmmmm Peace, Mike

I would definately wait for my man to come home. I wouldn't care how long it took for him to get home, I would wait. I know it's tough being a girlfriend/wife to a soldier but damn it, those men and women put their lives on the line for us and our country. They are our freedom, if it weren't for them protecting us, dying to save us from the BS that they are putting up with. To come home to a wife/ girlfriend or even boyfriend/husband who was unfaithful would be a kick in the stomach or a low blow. I work with men and women in the Military maybe not up close and personal but I do help get them what they need or want when they are deployed. I am an official Soldiers Angel. I hear it happening every day, it's sad when the person you think loves you would wait for you till you got home, only to find out that they really never loved you from the get go. It really sucks. I feel bad for those who have to go through all that, it's one thing coming home from a war looking to find the person you love dearly to hold and know that they are always there for you, but to come home not only from seeing all the people you fought side by side with die before you then to come home finding out your loved one messed around. That's a suicide waiting to happen. Much love goes out to all those soldiers who fight for our freedom, Thank you.

If I had to go to war and my girlfriend was left behind, then my going to war was my own fault because I enlisted in the military in the first place. Why should she have to pay for my mistake?

Turn about is fair play. Guys, if your lady went to war, would you wait?
I want to bring up another issue here. Depleted uranium munitions - DU for short. Ladies, if your man goes off to Iraq or Afghanistan, then he's at risk of being exposed to higher levels of depleted uranium in the environment because DU munitions were/are heavily used in those combat zones. Birth defects and higher rates of cancer are associated with exposure to DU.
We haven't even touched on post traumatic stress syndrome! Women, you have the power to end war by giving your man a choice: war or you. If you choose a soldier to be your man, G-d help you!

I am wondering why we are suddenly talking about DU and PTSD ?? Uh,, how many peoples signifigant others were killed or maimed in car accidents and it cost them a relationship ?? You can get PTSD from dealing with uneducated people too !! I'll take "stay on topic" for $300 Bob !!! DZ

Well captaindan, people don't volunteer for car accidents. People do volunteer for the military. Unless there is a draft, when you volunteer during wartime, you volunteer for war. Draftees have no choice, but women (and men) have a choice of whether their mates are voluntary enlistees.
In my shoes, if a woman I loved joined the military, then that would end it. I would not wait for her. I would expect any sensible woman would feel the same way about her mate.

I guess its all about how much you believe in your man's decision and the choice he has made. If you love him, you'll behave as if you'd made the same choice.
I'd wait...as I'd hope he would for me.
