JUST A DOG
From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand
the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just
a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog,"
but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog,"
and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me
comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand
phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."
"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust,
and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make
me a better person. Because of "just a dog", I will rise early, take
long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me,
it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the
future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away
from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" , but
the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a man or
woman." So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile --
because
they "just don't understand."

That is a the best way i have read to express
the feelings u have for your friend and companion,
I know how u feel , i work at an animal Hospital
and have seen first hand how people feel about their
animals.. to me and others they are not just "a dog or
cat or any animal" they r their child and a family member.

To My Fur Babies
at the Bridge
Your love was unconditional.
When I was down you licked my tears. When I was afraid you calmed my fears.
When I was happy you romped at my feet.
And when I was resting you snuggled by my side.
Your romp and bark they sometimes wailed. But when it mattered you never failed.
Rest now my sweets. I know you are comfy.
And know that Mommy is loving you from a distance.
This is on my rainbow page for my kids.

Lost---that was wonderful!
I have an old boy now, I adopted last year at 12+---he is going blind.
I named him Morrie and he fits the bill.
I guess my favorite ever dog was Dusty, a black Lab I rescued at 4 months. She was with me for 15 long wonderful, faithful years. I was working as a vet tech when she passed, so i got to spend an hour or so holding her and lying beside her after she passed.
I wrote this for her:
DUSTY~~~~~~~~~~NOVEMBER 1989---MARCH 2004
A JOB WELL DONE
I remember how your eyes would look into mine
Their soft warm amber gaze
Melting my heart.
Giving you my world, I loved you
Unconditionally, without hesitation.
Together so long,
You protected me from the outside world.
In sad times you were there
To sit with me;
To lie beside me
A warm body so badly needed.
You're gone now these past few days,
Though your spirit is all around; I feel you,
Smell you, as I drive the barren back roads
Crying uncontrollably,
My heart torn to pieces.
Time will heal this pain.
Life will pick up it's relentless pace
And there will be another for me.
For the gift you gave, asking nothing in return
Opens my heart .
Dusty, my sweet girl,
I will adopt another,
Not to fill your empty space,
But to honor your doggy
Life we shared so long.
A job well done.
