I sometimes even hold the door until the elderly woman with the walker is almost there, and then i pull it shut and run inside/outside giggling.

This southern-bred woman loves a down home gentleman!!! I said sir to this younger college guy yesterday afternoon and was told by him that I shouldn't because I was "like 10 years older". For me a lot of the rules on being a lady and being a gentleman were all about showing respect for others.. I love it, keep it up!!!

I was raised to be a gentleman as well, and honestly I think some women are turned off by it. I have even been told by more than one woman I am too nice. I ask one girl I was dateing if she wanted me to slap her around and call her b*tch. I swear I think she would have liked it, but that is not who I am and I will not change. Heck I couldn't even if I wanted to.

I love it when a man is polite and has manners - it's such a rare thing, but very nice.

I have to agree with 74 on this. It is something that is just second nature to us. AND if I ever wasn't polite, I think seven genations of my southern ancesters would come back to kick my ass!!!

Being a gentlemen and having manners should not be rare and Mothers that really care about their sons should still be teaching them to do these things, as my Mom and alot of others have done in the past. Hopefully you ladies with young children will continue this fine tradition. I consider myself to be so fortunate as to have had a wonderful Mom that taught me these things and a Dad that would box my ears for not opening doors or saying Yes, No or Thank you, Maam.
Stormy ~ they actually say Thank You, late at night ? Oh darlin, did you make a good impression !!!
Sorry Stormy, meant to say Italian.

Tex, we meet again. How are you?
I'm doing the best that I can with my son. That is perhaps one of the few things I miss about having a guy around.. is for him to be a good example of proper manners and etiquette.
