What makes for a better place to talk and get to know someone on say a first or second date- the standard dinner or a long walk or hike through a park or scenic area? Me, I prefer the more casual hike since I'd rather be outdoors if weather permits.

Me too, to a point, I like to be moving but also comfy just sitting. It's the being together and talking that I like.
Never fret tripping, I'm strong enough to catch you

Nope, I'm way out here in the boonies of Missouri surrounded by cool parks and women who like to fish and 4 wheel!

First date... I would say dinner. That way it's a quick escape if he ends up to be psycho.
Second date, a hike through a park might be okay.
Fishing = no escape. That kind of date would be further down the number list.

Dinner. If a guy tried to take me hiking on the first date way too many urban legends about people being murdered in the woods would pass through my mind. So unless it was a group hike I'd have to pass.

Neither. I wouldn't go on a hike/walk with a man I was just meeting for a first time, I would insist on meeting him some place public with lots of people around and with my car close by; and when first meeting someone, I'm too nervous for dinner. So, just someplace casual and public, a coffee house, for example.

Dinner or a park, thinking public place, not alone with them But, if you really want to get to know me, then a coffe shop in a bookstore is the best bet

I love getting to know someone by taking a walk. Not much of a hiker but a stroll after dinner or a picnic lunch is a favorite first date.

I think both are good. A light lunch and then a casual walk in the park to help digest everything and talk.

When I said hike or walk I was refering to public parks, sorry for the confusion. I see a lot of profiles that say they love the outdoors, especially ones near me, so I thought I'd see what everyone had to say about it. The answers are good, keep it up!
