I have 2 twin stepdaughters that I have been in very close contact with since they were 11 years old. They are now 25 years old. On Monday I received a phone call from one of the twins to tell me her twin sister was in the hospital in ICU on Life Support. She had bought some street prescriptions. She thought she was buying valium. Instead they sold her some pills used for diabetics. On Sunday night around 11:30 she and her companion passed out in a hotel room. At 11:00 Monday morning the maid found them. My stepdaughter is now a vegetable for however long she may live. The top part of her brain has absolutely no activity, she is on a respirator and is having seizures and also has now got pneumonia. Her heart stopped a number of times today and from today forward they will now do nothing to resuscitate her based on instructions from her parents and based on her desires that were expressed prior to this. Monday they will take her off the respirator if there has been no change. But even with change she will still be a vegetable. Because of taking the diabetic script - her sugar level dropped to 16 and they don't know how many hours it stayed this way but because the brain requires sugar and oxygen to operate she no longer has a brain. 25 years old. And she has no tomorrow now.

My purpose here for this thread????

First, - please pray for my stepdaughter, We only need a miracle. And there are miracles and we need one right now. And please pray for me to accept what I have to accept.

Second - Tomorrow is not guaranteed and life can kick you in the a** at any time. I challenge everyone to live life to the fullest and enjoy the gift of life that has been given to us.

We all make choices - and sometimes they are not good ones - Choose to make good choices in your life - even at this age we have the Choice.

Thank You

Vicki

Vickie, A tragedy! My eyes are filled with tears at this tragedy...as I remember sitting in ICU with my daughter Lisa, for days, her in a coma and me telling her all the things we had never found time to discuss before the accident, praying as I will now for your child, for a miracle. I told my grandson, when we walked down the hall to her room, to say goodbye, to remember everything because he would remember this day for the rest of his life. Me and that little boy (10) walked alone to say goodbye. The rest of the family waited down in the hospital lobby. An event such as this is earthshaking to the family to the mother, to the sister. You get along, after awhile with it and then another tragedy comes and it all wells up just as strong as at first. God Bless you and all the family and friends of this poor girl....They will need blessings and strength now and always....

I had a 24 year old son die unnecessarily. He was diagnosed with diabetes when he was 2 1/2. When his father and I divorced, he chose to live with his father. Little did I know that his father put him up with some college age kids and my son slept on the floor at age 16. The first clue I had was when his school called me and said he wasn't going to graduate. I managed to get his absenses excuses for medical purposes.

After graduation, he went to live with my mother in AZ while he went to automotive tech college. He stopped giving himself injections and started drinking. Every time I'd call, I was told everything was fine.

Fast forward 8 years and I get a call that he was not expected to live. He had gone blind and was on kidney dialysis for 18 months. I attempted to speak with his doctor, but no one would return my phone calls. When I went to the hospital to see him, all I got was flack from the X. Self-centered you know what.

I was at work when the call came. I immediately left to go tell my daughter. She took one look at me and said, "I know". She had had a dream that he was in a sailboat with no oars and was drifting away. She had said she could rescue him. He said no, it was his time.

Former husband took care of all the funeral arrangements. I was outraged when I saw the tombstone. I asked about having it changed and was told I wasn't the "owner". No, I was just the mother.

Yes, there not always is a tomorrow. Treasure today and all your yesterdays.

My heart goes out to you Vicki. Best wishes to the family.

Vicki, I am so sorry for the pain and sorrow you and your family are going through. I cannot even imagine how you feel and there are no words to say that can make this any easier for you. Yes, if there is a miracle out there, now is the time for God to perform one and heal your step daughter. My prayers are with you and your family. You must all be so devastated as this is such a sad thing to happen to a woman just starting her adult life. Be strong.

Tomorrow is the 4th anniversery of my Mother's passing and I will say to you the same thing I have been telling myself all day, God does this for a reason and it is not for us to wonder why. Mother was a 14 year survivor of colon cancer when she had to have gall bladder surgery. They nicked the bowel during this proceedure and she got septisemia and passed on. Be assured God does not give us more than we can handle and put it all in His hands for Him to have His way. May He be with you in your time of trouble. God Bless.

Thank you everybody - I will keep you posted - last report was she is getting worse. Her arms and legs are now stiffening up - i'm not sure why or what causes that. But they said it's like her elbows and knees are locked and she's real stiff. That's all i've heard today. Will call them after the visit is over this afternoon.

Thanks to everyone for their prayers - I talked to the mother after the 4:00 visit and she is getting worse - she is having more seizures.

Bones - you are right - it's not that the prayers are not answered it's just that sometimes the answers are not the ones that we asked for. But I have to leave it in God's hands.

It's been a very long day. All of your thoughts and emails are very much appreciated.

Thanks everyone for keeping the prayers going. There is still no change. Still no response at all and had not regained consciousness. I will give you updates as I hear them. I am reading the serenity prayer many times a day. It is something that I have to tell myself over and over that I must accept things I cannot change and God is the only one with the answers.

Vicki honey, I gave you my prayers on another site and you know you always have them.

I just pray that you can manage what is to come and can accept what is happening. I pray that your poor daughter is not suffering for any great length of time and that she goes peacefully if it should come to that. If God decides to perform a miracle and keep her here with you, I pray that she is able to have an acceptable life. Whatever comes, God bless you and your family. May you find peace and serenity in what the future holds. Love you. Hugs

We don't always understand why things happen, why we lose the ones we love, or why they must suffer if they linger with us. God has a plan....he just doesn't tell us until after the fact...Bless you all, may you be able to accept what you cannot change.

Vicki,
I was saddened to hear about this news. It has got to be one of the most horrendous times in your life. Please know that you and your step-daughter and the rest of your family are in my prayers. It's hard to accept what is and the strength we draw is from above. Miracles DO happen and healing does occur although not always in our time frame. God is in control and is feeling the pain right along with you. May He give you the strength and courage to get through this time.
In Christian love, Lynne

Vicki, I am thinking of you and praying for you and your family. This is such a tragedy for such a young and beautiful lady, my heart really goes out to all of you. I have learned all to well that there is not always a tomorrow and we need to be there for those people we care for and love today and in the moment. Be strong and know that the plan God has for your step daughter was there from the day she was born.
