I don't know about anyone else but I'm about as tired and confused as I can be. If I wear makeup, I'm fake. If I don't, I'm letting myself go. Nice shoes? Must be looking for some. Cover my gray hair? In denial about my age.
I give up! I can't be both high maintenance and a slob at the same time!
As if all the conflicting opinions from both men and women on here weren't bad enough, turn on the TV and see what that does for your confusion level. Now, not only do I have to shave a full 1/3 of my body every day, I also have to worry about whether or not my underarms are smooth enough! For who?
I can't be the only one who is confused and tired by all this.....
Maybe if we stopped competing with each other over looks and focused on the important things about ourselves, we could all have a few more hours in the day to enjoy life!

hear, hear. I wake up and shower. Do I shave today? Nah, its the weekend.
I can't speak for others but I am not into high maintenance. So what if you miss a day on shaving. Not gonna kill anyone.

v2 don't let all that stuff bother you. We all can't meet the media's idea of the perfect person. What do they know anyways. All they are trying to do is come up with ways to seperate you from your money. More products you just have to buy. It's the American way. Capitalism at its finest.
Just be yourself, but please shower daily.

Thanks Shark. I know it's not going to kill me or anyone else if my legs are stubbly. It's just that no matter what you do as a woman to take care of yourself, it never seems to be enough or even the right thing. Believe me, right now I look nothing like my pic! LOL!
Dang Dutch, how could you tell?

Just be yourself, and if no one likes it too bad. Their problem not yours.
You are pretty lady, and don't let anyone tell ya any different.

There is a big area in between being high maintenance and a slob, I think. Being showered, shaven, clean nails and clean clothes is all a matter of hygene. I like to look cute! It makes me feel good!

Don't get me wrong.
I take care of myself because I care about myself. I do it for myself, not anyone else. The problem I have is that the bar keeps being raised. I mean cmon, doesn't anyone else find it insane that they sell deodorant to make underarms smooth?
And standards change all the time. It wasn't all that long ago that it was considered trampy to worry about bikini line hair. Now you're considered a slob if you don't want to pay to have a complete stranger rip all your pubic hair out by the roots!
So come on ladies, be honest. You are really just fine with all of this?

There are people out there who must look a certain way every day and will only associate with the same kind of person. I can go from Black tie to blue jeans and a T all in the same day. I perfer to be casual and comfortable. A daily long hot bath is a must though.
I reufuse to jump hoops to look perfect all the time. You get my bed hair in the morning and my T shirt and panties when I go to bed. No daily frills here, but there are those special occasions.

So I guess I'm a fake. I take a shower to wash off the dirt (natural and unnatural), wear deoderant, brush my teeth, put lotion on my body and face, put on makeup, brush my hair (don't want dreadlocks), wear clothes (covering what mother nature gave me), wear a bra (so that I'm not getting black eyes), and wear high heels. Guess guess men should not shower, wear deoderant, brush their teeth, shave, brush their hair (for the ones that do have hair), wear clothes, or wear shoes.

<------------A REAL MAN.
Don't get me wrong. I appreciate it alright.
Just feeling sorry for v2. Its hard to meet all the expectations put on a person by the media. Some can never be obtained and its a shame if you let those little things bring you or keep you down.

v2... On the weekends when im cleaning and running errands, i will just throw on some jeans, put my hair in a ponytail and wear no makeup. But I work in an office Mon - Fri and I work for the Senior Vice Presidents so it requires me to dress and look professional. When I go out with the girls... I like to get dressed up and look good.
Its the situation that dictates how i look.

@ Chopper and Shark!
And for the record: Yes I shower daily!
Sorry all, these responses came in faster than I could keep up.... Cajun, I've been where you're at, and did the same thing. Give it another 12 years and you'll be tired of it too. I've got a friend who asked her husband for an eye lift for Christmas. He's giving it to her. I don't want to look younger than I am, I just want it to be okay for me to look my age. I want to be able to dress up or down without it being a reason for someone to critique me.
There. I think I'm done with the whining. Got cheese?
