They've started doin that county by county here in Georgia. I don't know about the law in IL, but here alot of the bars have renovated, by putting in a door or something to close off the smoking section from the non-smoking section. Also, in the unincorporated parts on my county (ie outside city limits) the law doesn't even apply to those bars. Same goes with beer/wine sales, gas stations & grocery stores have to stop selling by midnight. Luckily I can buy 24/6 where I live, except on Sundays.

Michigan is also in the midst of enacting non-smoking laws in all public buildings. This is no longer a matter of health. This is a matter of allowing our "freedoms" as Americans to slowly be dithered down to none. If you look at NY City alone, no cellphones while driving, no ipods in crosswalks, no smoking in public buildings, no dancing in nightclubs (recently upheld by the NY Supreme Court),and no transfat allowed in restaurant food. To witness limitations being put upon legal products to such an extent is very frightening. If tobacco is soooo bad, make it illegal....But then where would all of the money generated by the taxes be reclaimed from??? The hypocrisy of the government is without defense, yet we are subjected to it with no reproach. Those of us that grew up in the 50's and 60's didn't know seatbelts, car seats, helmets riding bicycles, and we lived through it...The government has too much control that needs to be reclaimed by the people.
Right on! Another intelligent post from Redford!
I am not against this for the same reasons as you; I am not as concerned about the limits on our freedoms in public places as I am about our property rights.
I don't smoke but I believe it is unconstitutional to prohibit a private business owner from allowing his patrons to smoke! It's his property, his business, his livelyhood; no one goes in unless they want to and further more they have to be willing to pay for it!
This is happening because so many Americans have lost sight of the true meaning of freedom; they don't understand that when the government gives to one it takes from another and get's it's cut also.
There is some faction that is against everything that some other faction does and our government is taking from each to placate the other and no one seems to see where this is leading!

My 96 year old aunt went into an hour long rant on hw the government is trying to controll us with all these helpfull laws. She's right. They get the general public is such great fear anything will be voted in. here in CA many years they got a helmet law passed due to add's that portayed moter cycle riders as accident victims who will be on intensive care life support under tax payer monies. Now it is the smokers. It's a joke really. Here you van not smoke in your CAR with kids in it. You can not be in a machine that spews out many diferent kinds of crap to harm many because the smoke inside is harmfull.
ll these laws are designed to bring about fear irst thats the first step to controll. They aren't for health. If they were the gov. feds and local would be concerned about the air water and the chemicals that go into and on our food not to mention they would ban geniticly modifyed crops.
This has been ongoing in politics to bring fear to all of us in order to get their way and what they wwant.
My aunt told us why her parents left russia. it was the same thing starting there. She warned all of us to watch for out what is comming here. if the government can tell you what you can do in your own home with people in mass supporting it out of fear there is trouble brewing.
Remember red alert orange alert.. Any one feel safer with these . What happened to these? Nothings different except many laws were enacted thru this fear to better help the government leed us by the nose.
Evey one needs to read pre war history and economics of Germany and see whats going on here and where it CAN lead
I say do not ever vote for any one who promotes these rights taking away laws and educate your selves and others to what is real . The government is not out for our best interest .
