The "Sleeping in the same bed" thread got me thinking last night...

Up until a few months ago, I used to say how fortunate I felt to be 48 years old and be medication free. No cholesterol pills, no high blood pressure pills, etc., etc.

I can't say that anymore as I've resorted to sleeping pills. After years of not even considering them, I now find them a saving grace.

And that got me thinking of how we change over the years. Our goals change. Our outlooks change. Our opinions change. And it's all based on our experiences.

So, it got me curious, and especially on this eve of 'resolutions' and all the thoughts on things we'd like to change... do you find yourself doing things you used to say you'd "never" do?

And Happy New Year everybody!!

It was hard to find any one wilder than me when I was young and single with out a lot of responsibilities. I collected my share of bumps and bruises over the years.

Aging made me more cautious about what risks I was taking, responsibility made me think more before acting. I got most of the things most people would never do out of the way before 35, now there are a lot of things I would never do, again.

Oh I'm sure you're anything but boring earthy! But I hear you about the difference in how we were and how we are.

Another one for me was I could never see myself giving up playing pool. It was always a huge passion of mine. Not just a hobby... a passion, and I was really good at it.

I still play, but just one night a week. I'm still pretty good, but I no longer compete (other than league competition).

It was a choice I made, and it was a good one, I just would never have thought it years ago.

As hard-headed as I was then, I knew eventually I would be a flaccid as I am now, but I will NEVER admit to it.

And NO, OP, I am NOT taking any blue pills to get women to fall asleep with a smile on their face.

I used to hate staying home. And while I have days where I feel like I'm climbing
the walls, and I need to get out, I now love being home. I get busy with life sometimes and then I get a free day to stay home and I'm the happiest girl in the world.

I swore I'd never be a "homebody" but now I can see that becoming a possiblity.
I love being here more than anywhere.

I'm 50 and I am no where close to medications, illicit drugs, cigarettes or any of that shi* that kills you. I have survived on living in moderation. I know my limits to everything. I hardly abuse anything. I

I still actively play sports with my 15 year old son, I meditate and make sure I don't follow silly trends like texting and being consuned by electronic devices. By the way I am an IT director..go figure!

I still have a good memory..becuase I don't rely on gadgets to do it for me. LIFE is simple..we often complicate it with all this other noise and nonsense.

I continue to stick with the things I will do..and leave behind the ones that i will continue to never do..thats why they were placed in that category in the first place.

Good luck to all

I deleted the word from my vocabulary many years age. I look back and find that using the word 'never', pretty much assured me, I would, in some way, experience the 'NEVER' statement. I said, "I will NEVER do drugs"...I experienced it through my children! I said, "I would 'NEVER' allow that kind of behavior...I DID. "I would never allow someone to treat me that way.: I DID! I now know two things...1 It's amazing what you can get used to! (from the movie Road House...Sam Elliot) 2 Until you have walked "EXACTLY" in someone else's shoes...You have no idea what you would 'NEVER' do!!! JMO

And well i got 4more years and it seems like those 4yrs are going to go empty handed ha ha.. So those are the two i always said "never" to.

In my teens I was never comfortable with being high up and looking down and was never a dare devil. Since then I have skydived, hang glided, parasailed, flown thousands of times, scuba dived, white water rafting, snow skied, water skied, and am now rock climbing. I only tried some of them, but still do some.

No. When I say "I will never..." I mean it. I rarely say it though. I have changed my attitudes towards some things when those things/situations change. I avoided the Kindle 1, as I was not sure it would catch on enough to be around very long, and I was unsure it would ever have a very large library of ebooks available to it, and because it cost too much to be worth such risks to me. I also wanted features it did not have. I didn't want to spend a lot on it, and then not be able to use it because not enough other people got one to encourage publishers to release enough ebooks for it.

When the Kindle 2 came out I was less cautious, as it seemed ereaders, and ebooks, were ideas whose times had come, and which would be around awhile...but I wasn't sure that another make/model may not be better. I at first preferred the Sony models, and wanted to see what the Nook, etc, would end up being. Also, the prices were still too high. Then came the Kindle 3, with a price cut, and extra features, and smaller size/lighter weigh-making it more comfortable to hold while reading in bed at night, while tired, and so I decided that the Kindle 3 was worth the cost...especially since there were then millions of ebooks available; many of which were free, or almost free. I did not change my basic attitude towards: price, or features, or desiring the availability of a large ebook library. The Kindle changed it's size, shape, weight, price, and the size of the available ebook library it could access. I bought a Kindle 3.

After getting ripped off by owning a 1973 Ford LTD which was so defect ridden that it should have been recalled, I said that I would never again own a Ford automobile. I have stuck to that religiously, and-even now...38 years later-I have refused to own another Ford auto. I still would not accept one if you offered to give it to me free, or even pay me to take it off your hands.

I almost never say: "I would never..."

But, when I do say it, I do mean it.

I used to always say I would never get involved with a man who was an alcoholic, narcassistic, poor (way under the income level) with no career, no car, no house just living in a cell appartment, in debt, gambling,..... no matter how cute and no matter how promising it seemed he would find his way out and up in life.... that I would get involved with him to end up in love and engageded to only I become the bad gal in having to break up with him anyhow...... Kicking myself in the rear because my mind was right and my heart was wrong about him. When will I look at the facts to honor my heart and tell my heart a man like that it is over before it starts....

Yes, nice thread- by the way! I have learned that the best things in life are actually free and don't cost a red cent. I have also learned that I don't need everything I own to be the best or most expensive. I have learned to do with a lot less than what I used to, and I am actually happier now. Call me cheap or disadvantaged if you want- but I have all the material things I want. I think I want something now that money can't even buy!

A post script to your thread from yesterday---and this comes from the crew who thought this over very well-----You work where the devastation and the misery affected God knows how many residents---there is no way to describe that entire horrifc storm and what the aftermath was for millions of people. The last thing that should EVER offend this man--or anyother person--is being told that they have "bad breath". If that news devastates him--then he has a warped sense of what REALLY MATTERS in our lives. You should tell him in a nice way--and hope that he says--"OOPS--thanks for telling me"!! Thanks for letting us add one more posting!!Good luck to you I guess we USED to say we would never tell someone something sensitive--well--somebody better start telling people whatever they need to know!!
