Ok, so I go out to the garage this morning to smoke (I don't smoke in the house) and drink a little coffee. A mouse runs across the garage floor so I go in the house to get the cat thinking he will take care of business. He sat in a corner of the floor and the mouse literally crawled up on his back side. WHAT? Then, I see the mouse and my cat sniffing noses. WHAT?
I need a new cat capable of catching a mouse!

Well that is a cat for you.
Hey, a Ky guy ..... and from my home town.
The dang cat catches and kills the mice just fine when he's outside. He leaves them dead, on the doorstep for me. I guess he thinks he needs to be buddies with this one since it's in the garage.

Last month Exterminator told me "House Cats" will most likely just play with Mice.
I was surprised to get a woman Exterminator.

Personally I love cat's..But what suprises me the most is how well she has me trained..She let's me know when she want's in and out of the house, she let's me know whether she like's the latest version of what cat food I got her..she decides how much of the bed I get to sleep on or if I can sit on my favorite spot on the couch without her in my lap..yes i allow her to do these things because I found my life is so much nicer because i do..dam it is like having a woman living with me (she is a female cat).

You said that the cat does kill other mice and leaves them on the door step , well , I guess he made friends with this little guy , haha I once had a cat , lived in the barn , killed anything that moved , he was well fed and very friendly , but a natural born killer

maybe your cat needs some more training. have you given him any prior hands on training for killing the mice? how was his first day orientation? was he able to shadow another cat to see how he does his job? maybe your benefits package wasnt up to snuff. there are alot of different factors for poor cat performance. Maybe you need to hire a cat consultant.

My beloved Shadow (may she rest in peace) once did something like that. I was sitting at my kitchen table (at a different place I once lived, maybe 10 years ago or so), and she was at my feet, like usual. We both saw a little mouse scoot out from underneath the closet door in the living room, dart around the corner, and dash along the baseboard to hide underneath the refrigerator. She just sat there, then looked up at me. I looked at her like, "Go GET it!" She just squinted at me, gave one of those bored, disgusted little *sniffs* that cats occasionally do (Little Miss High-N-Mighty, y'know), and curled back up. I thought, "You little shit!", so I had to go and get the mouse myself. She couldn't be bothered with such trivial things.

^^^ That's pretty funny Horace.
My cat loves to catch mice when he's outside. I guess he thought that since this one was in the garage, they were supposed to be buddies or something.

Sounds to me like your cat is great at forming relationships. So his mouse proofing skills aren't the best...leave him be. Maybe we could all take a lesson from the cat.

I brought my little stubby friend to work with me today. He's been chewing things up when I leave him. I work 10 hour days and I think he don't like the separation, even though he has 3 other dogs there with him. He's turned into quite the mama's boy...all needy. Why oh why can I not find a man to love me like this -sigh-.

Wait...I think you need to go back and look at the cat's original contract and make sure that mice catching was a part of his original job description. If it is not then you have no grounds to fire the cat and his job is safe. One cannot expect work duties to be performed if they are not specific from the very beginning and you cannot say it was under the catagory of "other" in the job description either.
