It's in the middle of the Mojave desert. About 6 months into my relationship with my ex, his unit had to head out there for six weeks of training. They have very limited access to showers or even luxuries like, say, toilets. When I say limited, I mean maybe two or three times in the entire time they're out there. We got to talk on the phone once in the entire six weeks, and then only for about 5 minutes, before they went back out to the field. BDU's are "battle dress uniforms," or in this case, the whole camo thing that women seem to find so sexy and appealing on Army guys. So if you can just imagine a guy, who has been doing hard physical labor out in the desert for six weeks, with a duffel bag full of clothing (maybe 4-5 different changes of clothing) that he's worn the whole time, NONE of which has seen a drop of water or soap, dropping this duffel bag on your carpet ... yeah. I was so goofy in love at the time that I wouldn't hear of him doing the laundry himself (even though he warned me what was in there), I insisted on doing it for him. OMG did I ever regret that LOL. I ended up taking the whole mess to a laundromat that had industrial washers and dryers. Now, I DID love the dress uniform he wore for our wedding, and I still have it, pressed and hanging in the closet. At some point I'm going to take it (with his dog tags and medals and so forth, which I also have saved) and have it all shadowbox mounted and framed, for our son to keep. He hated the dress uniform though, I had to beg and plead to convince him to wear the "pickle suit" for our wedding LOL.

There was a lot about being an Army wife that I absolutely loved, and being very proud of my husband was a big part of it (I still am proud of him for that, and I teach our son to be very proud of his daddy's service). The guy I'm dating right now is a Desert Storm vet (Navy), so I guess there's always been and always will be something about the character of military guys that I am very attracted to. I'd love it if my sons would enlist when they're grown. I guess what I'm saying, though, is that it's not all romance and dress uniforms; there is a lot of work and sacrifice that goes into actually BEING WITH a military guy, once you get past the "oooh look he has patches on his shirt!" part of it.
