I waited till I was old enough to know better and choose wisely.  Married at 28, divorced at 45...When my mother ask me why I wanted to marry him my answer was "He is good to me." Who'd have thought that two little words like "I do" would have changed a man so much??!!! The words "I undo" changed that toad back into a prince. We get along better now than we ever did married...go figure.

Thanks for the replies. My friend had asked me this question earlier today. We know a man at work who is not happy in his marriage because he got married so young. Now he feels obligated to stay because of the kids.

First time, 21 and she was 18 & pregnant (two sons within 10 months and 4 days...then we figured out what was causing it); last just less than 5 years. Second time at 35, lasted 11 years. Great kids and grandkids so, few regrets.

together at 21, married at 26, 2 kids and 14 years later was divorced, married for what i thought was love, but ended up being lust on his behalf, he lusted after anything that had a heart beat and was female............ I think im the lucky one i have 2 great kids, my independance and my self respect........... he has a controlling partner with a young daughter and hes goin g bald............. aint Karma sweet!!!

So my question to you, if it applies, how old were you and WHY did you get married?
18, (found out about our son, and tried to tell him to call it off because I was having the baby but he wasn't ready to be a daddy, so bye) grabbed me by the arm, threw me down in the street and said, "You don't show up at that church and I'll beat that kid outta ya'!"
Love? For my kid.
Pregnancy? And trying to protect him.
Convenience? His convenience as I was pretty much a "meal ticket".
Drunk? I was buzzed as hell to get through that ceremony, and put away 6 bottles of champagne by myself just trying to make myself stop shaking so much LOL
Trapped? You could say that.
Wanted to move out of your parents house? LOL I left home at 14, wasn't an issue.

I was 21 she was 19 I thought it was love. it lasted 15 years. But the last five years I felt the same way I stayed because of my child. I thought that was the right thing to do I have since learned that that is not the right reason. I feel so much better now that it is all over.
